Take a pledge today to “Reclaim India”

On the ocassion of our Indepdence Day, I would like each one of you to just spend two minutes and think: What can you do today to make sure that 15th August 2011 is better for you, for our society and for our nation?

What can you do about your responsibilities towards the society that has made you what you are – and the nation that gives you your identity?

What can you do to help us break the paradigm of poor governance and ineffective leadership that is slowly eating away at the innards of our existence as a society and as a country?  What can you do to help us take this powerful idea – an idea of changing India – and actually make it work?

Independence Day

What can you do to help us Reclaim India?

  • Reclaim our country which is being pushed to the brink.
  • Reclaim our country that is being sliced and diced in pieces to satisfy the hunger of those in power.
  • Reclaim our “Rashtra”  that is in danger of loosing its “Raashtriyata”.

Please join me today in taking a pledge to “Reclaim India” and free it from the clutches of the incompetent, the unfaithful and the self-serving.

Today is also a day to feel proud and happy about what we have achieved…but if you are feeling too depressed, here is a post from four years ago that might uplift your spirits.

Finally, please try and be respectful towards the national flag. Make sure it does not get trampled under someone’s feet. From my little corner of the world,

Happy Indpendence Day

  1. I’m going to learn to be more empathetic with everyone around me and realize that we all share a common humanity in spite of our differences. And also to be more optimistic with regard to human nature. There are too many who are cynical and who feel that everything that India stands for is false…

About the flag, I don’t think it’s really that important. In the US, people are much more patriotic about their country than here in India. Yet the American flag is used everywhere – even as underwear. The difference is that people wear it as underwear proudly!

    Hi Shantanu,

Wish you and others a happy Independence day.

I don’t quite like to believe that leaders governing India are universally ‘incompetent, unfaithful and/or self-serving’. I believe that a political system will throw up leaders that can best exploit the system and the leaders will exploit the system to the extent that it can be exploited. Current bunch of leaders is extremely competent in working the system. This is the case not only with the central government, but with every political party at all levels, and all public bodies.

A concerted effort has to be made to evaluate the system and uphold the best practices (Such as appointment of impartial governors, election commissioners and judges, and improving transparency in the financial operations of media). Let the system judge the competence of a political leader and let the system keep his selfish activities under leash. Targeting individuals or parties is unlikely to help the society in general. My two cents!

Happy Independence Day to all my fellow Bharateeyas!

Great thought! I would pledge that I would not encourage corruption (in the form of offering bribes to get away and so on) in any form and would also discourage my friends from doing so! Corruption has become so deep rooted (read CWG)that it has become impossible to imagine getting anything done the rightful way! But, I believe that there is hope and if all this blog readers/followers would pledge the same, there might be a difference.

    Jai Hind!

On that note the clown plince of India seems to have tied the knot with his columbian/venezuelan/spanish “arrest” companion.
Subramanium Swamy has been tweeting about it.
Apparently, this august event (not) was quite some time back at some “fly by night” spanish locale. Seems even if Raul wants to shake off the lady he can’t because her relatives are more mafiaso than his mothers.

I pledge to become a true Indian by understanding its roots and living life by the great scriptures of this Land, the Bhagavad Gita and teach the same to others to help them become gentlemen and people of solid character. At the same time I shall do my best to inform the people around me of the threat that this nation is facing and measures that they can take to help themselves. This I shall do with the help of writings of committed Nationalists like Mr. Gurumurthy, Mr. Subramanium Swamy, Shantanu, etc.

Hoping for God’s grace in my endeavours. and praying same for all the people working to preserve the vedic culture.

    Jai Hind, Jai Bharat.

  9. Gopalkrishnan Raman says:

I am raising up this nation to send forth my word…. When therefore it is said that India shall rise, it is the Sanatan Dharma that shall rise. When it is said that India shall be great, it is the Sanatan Dharma that shall be great. When it is said that India shall expand and extend herself, it is the Sanatan Dharma that shall expand and extend itself over the world. It is for the Dharma and by the Dharma that India exists….”

I say no longer that nationalism is a creed, a religion, a faith; I say that it is the Sanatan Dharma which for us is nationalism…. The Sanatan Dharma, that is nationalism. This is the message that I have to speak to you.

    Sri Aurobindo

India can once more be made conscious of her greatness by an overmastering sense of the greatness of her spirituality. This sense of greatness is the main feeder of all patriotism. This only can put an end to all self-depreciation and generate a burning desire to recover the lost ground.

Let us pledge to recover the lost ground.

  10. I pledge to fight against the corrupt and morally ill political class of this nation tooth and nail. Come whatever maybe I shall rest only when my heart takes the last bit.
I ask the perpetrators and anti-nationals to kill me now or be ready to be killed.
(Killing can be any way ideologically, morally, physically. But they can only kill me physically).
This is not frustration but an oath on the auspicious occasion of Swatantrya Divas. People may laugh and argue by labelling me an fanatic or extremist. But my extremism will be for this nation and Dharma.
    My Dharma says
Do not overtake freedom of anyone, including your children.
You are a living representative of god like millions of others.
    Uphold humanity and tolerance.
Do not let incapable suffer, its your Dharma to protect them.

    Jai Bharat!

  11. Sid says:

Why exactly must I pledge? The very fact that I am Indian/Bharatiya should make me loyal to her. This loyalty never changed. So why pledge for it?

  12. B Shantanu says:

All: Thanks for an engaging discussion…Will share my thoughts soon…Pl continue the dialogue.

@Sid: Perhaps I should have been clearer. The “pledge” was not to assert loyalty but to “Reclaim India” from “the clutches of the incompletent, the unfaithful and the self-serving…”. Hope this clarifies.

  13. @Sid,
Yeah pledge to “Reclaim Bharat” was to true Bharatiy like you.

    Jai Bharat!
