An Appeal for Help

Many of you would remember Empowering India – a website that I mentioned on this blog a few days back.

While in India last month, I had a chat with Kirti, who manages this initiative along with Barun. Kirti told me about the great work that they are doing in terms of “compiling information on all electoral candidates to help citizens make informed choices when they vote and make the electoral representatives accountable

As you can imagine, this is a huge task…and they need help…and our involvement.

Kirti specifically asked for help in terms of volunteers at local/state level who can help collect information about candidates, translate the affidavit data and help disseminating this information at the grassroots level.

Since a lot of affidavits are not filed in English, Empowering India needs volunteers who speak various regional languages to help with the task of translation.

I have offered to help with affidavits filed in Hindi and Marathi. Would any of you be willing to help them with other languages?

Please email Kirti or Navjyoti at this email address: empoweringindiamail AT gmail.com if you can help.

They would also appreciate your inputs and feedback on the website as well as suggestions/ideas for further implementation.

Hey this is a great effort. To make it easy for all of us can you list out the place where these candidate’s affidavit would be available for us to go and get it?

Typically in each constituency where would this information be available? And more importantly if a person just went there and asked for it, would it be provided ? Or does it need some RTI type of application made?

KC: If you click on this link http://www.empoweringindia.org , you will notice a section (in the left-hand column) titled “Political Analysis”.

Within that, you will see a menu option called “Know Your Candidate”.

That is the link you need to click.

Let me know if this does not work. Thanks.
