An eye-witness account of *militants* crossing into J&K

Courtesy Radha Rajan…enjoy.

This afternoon one of the CNN-IBN news report is that over a 100 militants have ’slipped/slinked/sneaked’ into J&K . They may be heading towards Bandepura. I decided to take off to J&K pronto and do my CNN-IBN citizen journalist sleuthing.

***** Report BEGINS *****

Hi, i am now standing with Muhammad Maqbool Malik who first told CNN IBN about the infiltration. Let me pan my camera for the stunning visuals.

Malik saheb, can you please us what is this thing over which we are standing?

This is the watch tower of the J&K police to watch the infiltration taking place.

I see. when was this built?

Immediately after the Kargil war.

Let me pan my camera downwards. Malik saheb, this line that we see painted this bright and beautiful luminiscent pink, what is this?

Oh, that is the LoC. It is to help the militants know that when they step across the pink line, they have successfully infiltrated.

And this tower it is a remarkable piece of enginering, malik tells me. malik saheb can you tell us what is remarkable about this watch tower?

Yes, remember madam that at the time of the Kargil war, Bill clinton told Vajpayee our army can do anything to retreive our peaks without crossing the LoC. Well this tower has been built right on the LoC so that we detect infiltration the moment it is happening. The genius who built the tower built it faithful to Clinton’s diktat. If you spit from the tower, the spit falls into pakistan. ut the tower reains faithfully inside the LoC.

Remarkable. How did he manage that?

Well Madam after every foot of the tower was completed we would bring in a man on top and make him spit. This way we ensured till the end that the spit always fell on the other side of the LoC while at the same time we are as close as we can get to the LoC.

You are in J&K. What do you do once you sight infiltrators.

We inform CNN-IBN immediately even if it is the middle of the night.

But why dont you send them back, or arrest them or kill them immediately.

That is not our job madam,. that is the job of the Indian army. Our job is only to tell CNN-IBN about the infiltration. Now look to your right Madam, can you see there, beyond that tree, a long line standing on the Pakistani side of the LoC?

Yes, let me pan my camera again. parul, can you see the long line infiltratorswaiting to slip in? they are all having their cup of tea now. malik Saheb tells me that once they finish their cupps they will start to cross the pink line,

Madam, see they have begun and see how they are all walking ina single file and madam look, they are now breaking up into three.

Malik saheb why are they breaking up into three?

One line goes to Baramulla, another to Kupwara and the third to Hyderabad.

    Dear Sir,
You must understand that their is a nefarious reason for classification as Militants and Terrorists.
If they are Militants then they are protected to Kill, maime, Destroy Public property, Create animosities among groups of people, practice Ethnic cleaning by the International human rights and Amenesty.
In the case of the poor TERRORISTS sadly they have no such protection!

Voice of Kashmir” is an initiative launched by the Kashmiri People Youth, to reclaim our voice that identify us. Even though we have been hounded out of our homes and hearths in the Kashmir valley, our “Voices” are very much anchored there in the Valley. This is an initiative to protest and raise the general awareness of whole world .
Kashmir—this name brings mixed emotions and reactions from all over world. Some reactions are based on religious emotions especially from Muslim dominated countries, some based on the fact that it is a part of world’s largest democracy, or at present it is one of the world’s most dangerous places to work and live. Majority of the population of the Kashmir valley is Muslim Dominated with may be 10% minority comprising of Kashmiri Hindu or popularly called Kashmiri pundits and Sikhs. Kashmiri pundits were forced to leave Kashmir valley 18 years back by the so called Islamic jehadis or Islamic terrorists.
Religion was used as a tool to kill innocent Kashmiri pundits-the original inhabitants of Kashmir. Hinduism and Buddhism were the two main religions of Kashmir for more than thousand years and both these religions were equally respected and followed by the masses and both religions flourished side by side till the coming
    of Islam in 13th century.
Since December 1989 everything changed for peace loving Kashmiri pundits who were and still are believers of peace and non-violence. Harmony, peace, and non-violence are like food, air and water to Humanity as a whole and it becomes more relevant to the present scenario as the world has virtually shrunk with the coming of internet.
Kashmir valley has been used as a laboratory by Muslim jihadis backed by Pakistan and they have left no stone unturned to infect the common Kashmiri people with violence and hatred towards the minority Hindu community of Kashmir. Although Muslims are majority population of Kashmir and the total population of Muslims in Kashmir will be 5-6 million but compared to the total population of India it is still a minority. The total population of Muslims is around 140-150 million which is roughly 14% of the total population.
India is probably the only country where you have president from minority religions
Especially Muslim presidents. This is primarily because of the fact that Majority populations of India-Hindus are by and large a very peaceful people. India has not attacked any country since last 1000 years. Religions like Islam came to India with Moguls from central Asia. And from Persia.

Coming back to Kashmir, Kashmiri pundits have been uprooted from their motherland and have suffered physically, mentally and financially the most as compared to the Muslims of Kashmir. The efforts of Indian government are not sufficient as India is still a developing country and vote bank politics of India is probably the worst form of Democracy and the biggest cause of uprooting Kashmiri pundits from Kashmir. At the time of Forced migration by the Muslim fundamentals ordinary Tents which were not even weather proof were provided as an accommodation to Kashmiri Hindus. And after many years were upgraded to one room apartments which looked more or less like cattle sheds than an apartment. Livelihood of Most of the Hindus was snatched by this religious terrorism, Thousands of people from Minority Hindu community were brutally murdered, properties looted and women raped by these so called Islamic Jihadis.
Every organization in India is politically backed and that was the main reason for the Human rights organization in India to keep mum on the plight of Kashmiri pundits and the government at the center kept the news of Forced migration under wraps and very-2 secret. That type of secretness is shown mostly by the communist countries. If majority population would have known the reasons of forced migration and killing of kashmiri Hindus It could change the results of the general election held every five years to choose the chief ministers and Prime Minister of India.
It is very unfortunate that kashmiri Hindus who are peace loving people, Crime free society and have a literacy rate of 100% . have suffered so much and are still suffering as so called humanitarian organizations like United nations or Human rights organizations, have constantly kept an blind eye on the suffering of kashmiri Hindus.
It is not only the policies of India and Pakistan to blame for the plight of kashmiri pundits; But UNHRC and Europeans are equally responsible. Terrorist’s leaders like Yasin Malik in an interview with Tim Sebastian-BBC Hard Talk-Telecast-june-july 2001.admitted of killing number of people in Kashmir. It is disgusting, humiliating and a shame to Mankind when he is being welcomed in Discussions by Europeans . It shows double standards of European union and United nations Human rights commission. I am very sorry to state here that E.U is preaching something and practicing something else. Discussing sensitive issues like Social and economic progress,Freedom,Security and Justice with organizations and Terrorists who follow the path of violence and who have lived most of their life killing innocent people and promote hatred among different sections of society can do very little for noble causes like freedom or justice or any of the objectives of European union. Not only this, It also encourages the young generation to follow the foot steps of terrorists to use violent ways of attaining objectives.
Srinagar, January 4, 1990. Aftab, a local Urdu newspaper, publishes a press release issued by Hizb-ul Mujahideen, set up by the Jamaat-e-Islami in 1989 to wage jihad for Jammu and Kashmir’s secession from India and accession to Pakistan, asking all Hindus to pack up and leave. Another local paper, Al Safa, repeats this expulsion order.
In the following days, there is near chaos in the Kashmir valley with Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah and his National Conference government abdicating all responsibilities of the State. Masked men run amok, waving Kalashnikovs, shooting to kill and shouting anti-India slogans.
Reports of killing of Hindus, invariably Kashmiri Pandits, begin to trickle in; there are explosions; inflammatory speeches are made from the pulpits of mosques, using public address systems meant for calling the faithful to prayers. A terrifying fear psychosis begins to take grip of Kashmiri Pandits.
Walls are plastered with posters and handbills, summarily ordering all Kashmiris to strictly follow the Islamic dress code, prohibiting the sale and consumption of alcoholic drinks and imposing a ban on video parlours and cinemas. The masked men with Kalashnikovs force people to re-set their watches and clocks to Pakistan Standard Time.
Shops, business establishments and homes of Kashmiri Pandits, the original inhabitants of the Kashmir valley with a recorded cultural and civilisational history dating back 5,000 years, are marked out. Notices are pasted on doors of Pandit houses, peremptorily asking the occupants to leave Kashmir within 24 hours or face death and worse. Some are more lucid: “Be one with us, run, or die!”

Srinagar, January 19, 1990. Jagmohan arrives to take charge as governor of Jammu and Kashmir. Farooq Abdullah, whose pathetic, whimpering, sniveling government has all but ceased to exist and has gone into hiding, resigns and goes into a sulk. Curfew is imposed as a first measure to restore some semblance of law and order. But it fails to have a deterrent effect.
Throughout the day, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front and Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists use public address systems at mosques to exhort people to defy curfew and take to the streets. Masked men, firing from their Kalashnikovs, march up and down, terrorising cowering Pandits who, by then, have locked themselves in their homes.
As evening falls, the exhortations become louder and shriller. Three taped slogans are repeatedly played the whole night from mosques: ‘Kashmir mei agar rehna hai, Allah-O-Akbar kehna hai’ (If you want to stay in Kashmir, you have to say Allah-O-Akbar); ‘Yahan kya chalega, Nizam-e-Mustafa’ (What do we want here? Rule of Shariah); ‘Asi gachchi Pakistan, Batao roas te Batanev san’ (We want Pakistan along with Hindu women but without their men).
In the preceding months, 300 Hindu men and women, nearly all of them Kashmiri Pandits, had been slaughtered ever since the brutal murder of Pandit Tika Lal Taploo, noted lawyer and BJP national executive member, by the JKLF in Srinagar on September 14, 1989. Soon after that, Justice N K Ganju of the Srinagar high court was shot dead. Pandit Sarwanand Premi, 80-year-old poet, and his son were kidnapped, tortured, their eyes gouged out, and hanged to death. A Kashmiri Pandit nurse working at the Soura Medical College Hospital in Srinagar was gang-raped and then beaten to death. Another woman was abducted, raped and sliced into bits and pieces at a sawmill.
In villages and towns across the Kashmir valley, terrorist hit lists have been floating about. All the names are of Kashmiri Pandits. With no government worth its name, the administration having collapsed and disappeared, the police nowhere to be seen, despondency sets in. As the night of January 19, 1990, wears itself out, despondency gives way to desperation.
And tens of thousands of Kashmiri Pandits across the valley take a painful decision: to flee their homeland to save their lives from rabid jihadis. Thus takes place a 20th century Exodus.
    * * *
Srinagar, January 19, 2005. There are no Kashmiri Pandits in Srinagar, or, for that matter, anywhere else in the Kashmir valley; they don’t live here anymore. You can find them in squalid refugee camps in Jammu and Delhi. As many as 300,000 Kashmiri Pandits have fled their home and hearth and been reduced to living the lives of refugees in their own country.
Two-thirds of them are camping in Jammu. The rest are in Delhi and in other Indian cities. Many of them, once prosperous and proud of their rich heritage, now live in grovelling poverty, dependent on government dole and charity. In these 15 years, an entire generation of exiled Kashmiri Pandits has grown up, without seeing the land from where their parents fled to escape the brutalities of Islamic terrorism, a land they dare not return to, although that land still remains a part of their country.
A large number of them are suffering from a variety of stress and depression related diseases. A group of doctors who surveyed the mental and physical health of the Kashmiri Pandits living in refugee camps, found high incidence of ‘economic distress, stress induced diabetes, partial lunacy, hypertension and mental retardation.’ Statistics reflect high death rate and low birth rate among the Kashmiri Pandit refugees.
And thereby hangs a tragic tale that has been all but wiped out from public memory.
An entire people have been uprooted from the land of their ancestors and left to fend for themselves as a weak-kneed Indian state shamelessly panders to Islamic terrorists and separatists who claim they are the final arbiters of Jammu and Kashmir’s destiny. A part of India’s cultural heritage has been destroyed; a chapter of India’s civilisational history has been erased.
Had this tragedy occurred elsewhere in Hindu majority India, and had the victims been Muslims, we would have described it as ‘ethnic cleansing’ and ‘genocide.’ We would have made films with horror-inducing titles. We would have filed cases in the Supreme Court of India. Our media would have marshalled remarkable rage in reporting the smallest detail.
But, this tragedy has occurred in Muslim majority Kashmir valley, and the victims are all Hindus, that too Pandits. What has been lost is part of India’s Hindu culture, what has been erased is integral to India’s Hindu civilisation.
Therefore, the government makes bold to record that the Kashmiri Pandits have “migrated on their own” and their ‘displacement (is) self-imposed;’ the National Human Rights Commission, after a perfunctory inquiry, refuses to concede that what has happened is ‘genocide’ or ‘ethnic cleansing,’ though facts add up to no less than that, never mind that 300,000 lives have been destroyed.
And, our jhola-wallah brigade of secular activists rudely turn up their noses to the plight of Kashmiri Pandits: Hindu sorrow, inflicted by Islamic terror, stinks.
Today, on 31march the 18 Year of the forced flight of Kashmiri Pandits, look back at India’s wretched history of secular politics and consider the terrible price the nation has paid at the altar of appeasement because the Indian State has, and continues to, toe the line of least resistance.
What exactly Those Terrorist are proposing? Are they saying that They have a fundamental right of self-determination and Kashmiri Hindus don’t have a right to exercise their fundamental right of political voice? terrorists can have a political voice and a peace-loving patriot cannot. What kind of standard is it

Why have the Kashmiri Pandits not taken up the gun and attacked theior attackers ? Why have they not formed an armed KP Liberation Front ?
There comes a time, when peace-loving men must take up arms against the barbarians, and fight the righteous battle against the aggressors. (read the Mahabharat).

  5. Manish zijoo says:

    Dear Keshav,
Your question is right that why dont KP’S attack their attackers .Our religion is behind all this we have never taught to kill the people from our toddler age we have been taught to be kind and genrous even to the plants and insects like Ant .
In our hinduism we grow up with lot of kindness and affection all this make us not coward but kind enough .
You are right the time has come when we have to leave behind our indness and we have to put arms .We have to become cruel to crush the cruel .
to make our battle the battle of all the victims we have launched an initative VOICE OF KASHMIR this is not the voice of kashmir but the voice of Hindus throughout the world
