Let’s salute a real “Hero”

Day after Sena medal, officer dies fighting Ulfa

“…A day after he was awarded the Sena medal for gallantry, on Republic Day, Capt Sunil Kumar Choudhary of 7/11 Gorkha Rifles died fighting Ulfa terrorists in Assam’s Tinsukia district on Sunday.

The 28-year-old officer was shot during an encounter with militants at Barpathar in the militancy-hit Tinsukia district of Upper Assam.

…An army report said Capt Choudhury and his team rushed to a house at Rangagarh in Borpathar after a tip-off that Ulfa terrorists had taken shelter there. The team came under heavy fire from the heavily armed militants. …After a brief standoff, Capt Choudhary charged into the house, his gun blazing, leaving two militants dead, but the young officer, too, was hit. The entire operation was over within minutes as the rest of the militants escaped.

Capt Choudhary, who was based in Kakopathar, Assam, was in the thick of counter-insurgency operations and was believed to have been a target of the rebels. His father is a serving army officer in Nashik..”

Captain, I salute you and pray for your family…It is because of brave defenders like you that we live in freedom…and enjoy the niceties of our day-to-day existence…I know that these words do not mean much in the face of tragedy that has befallen your family…

But in our hearts, you will not be forgotten…

Jai Hind, Jai Bharat.

While oursoldiers bravely defend the country in harsh, unhospitable and dangerous conditions, some people protest the hoisting of national flag on Republic Day.

Anwar Safi, spokesperson of the Jamaat-e-Islami (Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh)…said in a statement…that hoisting the Tricolour on national festivals should not be mandatory for madrassas…and (further that) “All Muslim bodies across the state will protest against this non-secular move”

:-(

What next? No singing of national anthem at madrasas?

Do these brave men get recognition in the media?

Every US soldier that dies in Iraq gets his/her name and home city read out on TV, and printed in major newspapers in the US.

  2. Pranav Pareek says:

Yes these brave martyrs should get recognition in media because they are our real heroes. We are living happily and peacefully in our homes because they were guarding us from terrorists at borders and at many distant places. So every citizen of India should come to know about their sacrifice they made only for us and for no body else. After few days no body remember their sacrifice except their family. Media will help in developing an interest in young generation towards nation and armed forces.

Shantanuji, dhanyvada to have posted this.
In deep gratitude & humility we remember Capt Choudhary.

Do soldiers like him ever get due recognition, do their families get properly taken care of after their martyrdom?

  4. B Shantanu says:

Ashish, Pranav and Anirban: Thanks a lot for your comments… It shows that you care.

We have two choices – we can lament about how the media seems to ignore the sacrifices of Captain Choudhary and hundreds others like him

    OR

we can take it upon ourselves to do something about it…perhaps by forwarding this link to some of our friends and acquaintances…Let them know that they can sleep peacefully at night because we have soldiers prepared to lay their lives down for them.

    Jai Hind.

My salute to Capt. Choudhary and he will not be forgotten.
    Jai Hind!

In that hope, more awareness is required among normal day to day -citizens. They need that sensitivity to understand the lives of soldiers and army personnels and what they are doing.
Thanks Shantanu, for being more active in this front.

Second most importanat thing what I read somewhere(I think, Rediff) that we are running behind by 11000 solidiers, youngsters are not interested in joining defence academy.

I believe joining army is the best thing one can ever do in his life time. They are real hero, they take nation with the true heart, not filmy.

    Dear Sir,
I am not surprised at the attitude of the “Pseudo Secular Media”. I have stopped watching the Channel NDTV, as it had no shame in stating a couple of days before the Rebuplic Day the following words by one of its news readers ” If the SKIRMISH at KARGIL ” can be called a war, India has fought “X” no of wars with the self destructive country next door to us!!
I am sure some honorable people will not lose sleep as it involves Indians of a certain section and not others!!!
Thanks for the information for contributions. I will also like to add here that good drivers, canteen assistants, cooks must be available at the level of the retired Jawans.
I think if some sort of information is made available through this site, including a link, I am sure many of us can give them some decent chances of re-employment and dignified living.
    Regards,
    vck

Sadly, nothing much seems to have changed…

From: UPA’s death blow to the morale of Indian Military-III by V SUNDARAM a brief excerpt:

    ***
This terrible situation has not changed till today. Col Vasant Venugopal was a commanding officer of 9 Marathas. Under his command, the battalion killed nine Pakistani terrorists in Uri Sector of Jammu and Kashmir on 31 July 2007. He left behind his wife Subhashini, and daughters Rukmini, and Yashoda. Col Vasant Venugopal was awarded ‘The Ashok Chakra’. The Ashok Chakra is awarded for valour, courageous action or self-sacrifice away from the battlefield. It is the peace time equivalent of the Param Vir Chakra and is awarded for the ‘most conspicuous bravery’.

When Col. Vasant Venugopal’s body was brought to Bangalore for cremation with full military honours, neither the then Chief Minister Kumaraswamy nor any of his Cabinet Ministers participated in the funeral. Thus they showed that they are only carrying on the ignoble tradition of contempt for the Armed Forces of India established by Jawaharlal Nehru and his successors.
