Afzal-giri vs. Gandhi-giri
This has to be the statement of the year (courtesy Farooq Abdullah, former J&K Chief Minister):
If Afzal is hanged, he will become a hero for centuries to come. The nation will go up in flames
For a moment, I actually thought he was talking about Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh or Chandra Shekhar Azad.

Our armed forces have shot dead tens of thousands of such ‘Afzals’ in the last two decades, nation did not go up in flames nor any of these dead fanatics entry history books to become heroes.
Perhaps ‘the nation’ Abdullah is talking about is Pakistan, the nation actually he feels he belongs to ( as can be expected of all good muslims ), he is doing his ‘jehad’ by sitting on this side of border because he thinks he can be more benefiting that way, afterall islam also needs some dedicated jehids sitting right in the land of infidels for strategic reasons. No?
It is the nature of a muslim to be aggressive by birth. Their religion teaches everything else and also teaches violence. Their religion also teaches that all other religions and gods are deamons. I have a typical example, in our city in the middle east, one of the religious big heads is giving a speech on Pakistan’s independence day. He is giving a speech about the Kashmir’s issue. I’m not sure how much he knows about this dispute. He is telling that muslims all over the world are hit by this act of agression by India. See this is a muslim. He would retaliate others and induce violence into other muslims eventhough they are not directly conneted. Look at Palestine, Pakistan, UK, US, Iraq, Iran anywhere on this globe, If there is a death or suffering involved due to terrorism, a muslim is definitely involved. And if proved right they would say that Islam is not like this. I have been reading a book during my last vacation and one of the statements on that book really moved me and I feel it is right. ” NOT ALL MUSLIMS ARE TERRORISTS, BUT ALL TERRORISTS ARE MUSLIMS.
There is 100% truth in this statement.
Oh yeah….why not? Only Muslims have the right to kill/torture/execute kafirs. Kafirs cannot punish these noble souls. For once, can these politicians get their loyalties straight? They enjoy the freedom, money, security this country provides but have problems identifying themselves as Bharatiyaas! I wouldn’t be surprised if it really happens…because we are a nation where the minorities dictate, government dances to the minorities’ tunes and the majority does not care till the next attack is made on them.

There are hundreds of Afzal Gurus in India.

By not following up on his sentence, we send all kinds of wrong signals to the world.
There may or may not be 100s of Afzal Gurus but I do know that only one has been convicted and sentenced. I will say once again: The law of the land must be upheld.

Charu: At least 100 people in 2007, 40 in 2006, 77 in 2005, 23 in 2002, and 33 in 2001 were sentenced (but not executed) to death.
Death sentence in India is given in rare of the rarest crimes, then why not all the above mentioned people are hanged, we only talk abot Afzal Guru.

B Shantanu@Charu: Lets get some facts straight. The numbers you mentioned are the convicts who have been sentenced but have their conviction at various stages of appeals (just like Kasab is planning to appeal his sentence in the High Court) and that is why they have not been hanged.

Secondly – as far as I know – none of the pending mercy petitions before the President of India are for crimes against the state (or treason). Afzal Guru’s was not an ordinary crime – It was almost like an act of war against the state. It was an act of treason.
The 273 others include former MP Anand Mohan the murder of an IAS officer in Bihar, former Congress leader Sushil Sharma for the murder of Naina Sahani and Santosh Kumar Singh for the rape and murder of Delhi University student Priyadarshini Mattoo. I hope you see the difference.
I would be keen to hear what you think the real reason for delaying Afzal’s hanging might be? What might have caused the “political pressure” mentioned above? Lets discuss that. Might it be the fear of a backlash in the valley? or might it be the loss of potential vote-bank(s)?
And if hanging him really makes him a martyr, should we not be worried about that rather than taking the easy way out and granting him clemency? What do you think?

Looking at some of the comments coped over from the discussion at the Facebook page, one thing really strikes me. There is a huge army of sepoys, vast majority of which is made up of comrades, and the rest by self-styled self-righteous pseudo-secularists, pseudo-liberals. Truly, Jaichand, Shiladi etc. of yore might be dead, but their modern day incarnations are alive and kicking. Who needs a Afzal Guru given this ever ready army of sepoys.

I agree with Girish..let us not feed filth to our endangered vultures. The only reason I think and believe is that except for Hindus, rest of the population has human rights. So, a non-Hindu cannot be execeuted no matter what his crime may be. After all, he is doing what he is supposed to do according to his “Dharma”…kill the kafirs to gain virgins in Jannat! How dare we – the secular people insult his belief and even dare give him a death sentence? Does any of our ‘so called leaders’ have guts to issue a similar statement that if Afzal and Kasab are not hanged, there would be riots in India? Who are we trying to please? Hilary, Obama, Gilani???
Our Indian Govt must Give death penalty to Rascal Afzal who played key role during 13th December 2001 parliament attack don’t ever show any kind of mercy to him.If we fail to hang Afzal this may encourage to other terrorist as well. because terrorism from other countries may land to India & perform terrorism activities and get bail from Court.
Terrorism and Islamic extremists are not to be allowed to continued their onslaught of innocent people. They are not an army, they are not revolutionaries, they are criminals and we should not just stand by as they bomb and kill innocent women and children for their so called “cause”. I do not see the love for Allah from Terrorist and Islam that the Koran preaches in these people. All I see is pure hatred and bloodlust. They should all be hunted down and killed like the dogs they are. As for their supporters, I do not see why they should not see the same fate as the people they back, financially, militarily or through the media. My sincerest regrets to the people who lost their lives in the bomb attacks and their families.
I urge our Indian Govt to stop the training camps of extremist organisations such as Madrassa,ISI,LeT etc in India. Gulf countries also has extremist organisations like Al-Qaida and they serve no purpose other than causing communal complications to fill their own pockets. Larger educated population of Pakistan does not share the same sentiments as these extremist organizations. It is so sad to see lives of young Rascals like Ajmal Amir Kasab destroyed Mumbai 26/11. I am no judge on any religion but I believe in my heart that all religions give the same message. Effort should be placed in building schools and in increasing job opportunities so people can work and live a life of respect and not poverty. The statement of Farooq Abdullha; at end of the day will make govt impotent and bring disablity. In simple words “Appahij banayegi desh ko or desvasiyo ko.” Below are the news of Gujarat from last four weeks at deshgujarat site. My point is only to show how congress has made Gujarat inable and disable, by making its statement towards Modi, gujarat and Gujaratis whenever they get chance to attack Gujarat. —-Vijay Dataniya who was according to locals dragged to Muslim street near Ambalivali pol secondary school, was beaten by stones, forcefully fed acid, showered by acid and injured by sword and pipe by group of rioting Muslims died today in Ahmedabad’s V.S.Hospital.
Vijay was brutally attacked by Muslims on Tuesday. Spectators present on the site said, “there were four police constables present on the site, but they couldn’t dare to prevent group of Muslim attackers. After Vijay was brutally beaten and fed acid, we the people from Hindu area formed large group, went there and rescued him from the hands of Muslims.â€
The latest riot in Shahpur began when a Hindu wedding procession was passing through a street where Muslim mosque is located. Muslims asked Hindus to stop music and dancing. They also reportedly harassed some Hindu girls participating in wedding procession.
—On Tuesday, at least four Hindu Mandirs were vandalized by Muslims. Idol of goddess Khodiar mata was damaged. All this happened when heavy police force was deployed here.
Locals said, “this is one more death of Hindu in Shahpur area. If you start counting the records, in previous 10-20 years dozens of Hindus are killed in this area.Many rich and middle class Hindus who can afford to buy property elsewhere have vacated this area and shifter to other parts of the city. Now some poor people like us are surviving here. We face regular attacks from Muslim side, but as we are poor we can not buy property anywhere else and can not shift. We are here to fight with little help of police sometime, but most of the time on our own.â€
—Fire brigade team was passing through Delhi Chakla to Jotana to rescue a boy who was drowned in Narmada canal near Mahesana district’s Jotana village. Fire brigade’s vehicle consisting team of three jawans was attacked with stones by Muslim groups. Injured jawans were taken to hospital
—It was said to be a land dispute in root that resulted into a full scale communal clash in central Gujarat’s Kheda district’s Mahemdavad taluka based Raska village where six Hindu Devipoojaks, attacked by Muslims were injured on Sunday night this week. Two Devipoojak Hindus seriously injured were taken to Ahmedabad’s Civil hospital for further treatment.
On 19th of this month, four Muslims attacked a Hindu wedding procession passing by Jumma mosque here and injured three Hindus. Borsad police had arrested four Muslims for this act, but they were released soon. Villagers say, this made their moral high to do it again. Later police had deployed its staff outside the mosque. But according to villagers yesterday when another Hindu wedding procession passed on this road at around 11.15 pm, the Muslims attacked it even though there was police force deployed
–Minority Hindus were again attacked in Ahmedabad’s Shahpur area where Muslims are in majority now.
—According to primary information available, some shops and one auto-rickshaw are torched. Police lobbed more than one dozen tear gas shells to control the rioting crowds. It tool one hour to control riot.
–Police fired five rounds in air today in Ahmedabad’s Shahpur area after crowds of Muslims continued their attack on minority Hindus in this area consequently on second day though there was a presence of police in large amount.
–Muslims of Shahpur Rangila chowky area formed large crowds and threw soda water bottles, stones, burning objects, acid bulbs on Hindu streets such as Ambli ni pol, Kidipada ni pol etc.On Tuesday at least six persons(all Hindus) were injured in Shahpur area. While one Hindu woman faced injury in her hand in police firing, another one person faced acid burn. Others were injured due to heavy stone pelting from Muslim side.
—A Hindu sweeper Ghanshyambhai Chauhan was attacked in Ahmedabad’s Muslim dominated Kalupur area on Thursday morning. Ghanshyambhai was going to attend his duty near Patwa sheri on Relief road area. He was stabbed using sharp weapon. His condition was serious according to primary details available. This incident shows that three-day old Shahpur attacks have now stepped outside this area and spread further to Kalupur also.
