More on Munnabhai vs. Manish Pitambare…

Friends,

Thanks for all your comments to my post ” Of Stars and Martyrs, Munnabhai vs. Manish Pitambare

It brought up deep feelings and emotions and I think the thoughts deserve a follow-up and wider circulation.hence this follow up post.

I am so glad that several of you took the initiative to search the web when you didnt knew who Manish Pitambare was…most other people would have simply switched channels or continued watching the show without bothering to find out who Major Pitambare was.

Neuron, you say that being in news is not the scale of greatnessI agree and yet it is only by being in the news that people like us realize who the real heroes are.

Vinay, you ask how many people will watch if such news aired daily?. I agree but that does not mean that we ignore the deaths of our soldiers. The real point is that mainstream media is dominated by sensationalism (to drive circulation) rather than portraying or acknowledging reality. As you say, alterative media can fill the gap but that does not mean that mainstream media can abdicate their responsibility.

Bloggers dont have the reach of mainstream media in India (yet) and are also handicapped because of language (most blogs only reach the English-speaking educated, urban middle class). I have some ideas on making at least my posts more accessible to the non-English speaking audience but I need help. If anyone of you is interested, please send me an email at jaiDOTdharmaATgmailDOTcom

Indian, I would be more than happy to do what I can in this regard. Indeed, one of the main objectives behind this blog is to highlight stories that otherwise go unreported and opinions that otherwise go unheard or get lost in the din.

We can actually do a little more than visit the site, write something and go back to our own life. We can of course come togetherand a first step could be by creating wider awareness I have not given up hope.,.and let us not despair

An easy next step that you can do is to forward this link https://satyameva-jayate.org/2006/12/09/munnabhai-vs-manish-pitambare/to as many people as you can so that we can raise public awareness about this issue and give Major Pitambare the respect, the attention and the honour he richly deserves. Jai Hind.

after reading on Manish Pitambare on a newspaper I feeled like knowing more and went on internet.
The death of a brilliant and courageous person is always a big loss for everyone, still his family and India can be proud of him; and it’s a french “pacifist”
    who writes this.
Manish will not be forgotten. Francis G.
