Saluting our Heroes: The “Param Veer”s of Kargil

26 July 2010 366 views 7 Comments

Please take a moment today to remember the heroes of Kargil. As many of you would know, today is “Kargil Vijay Diwas” – a day to remember the valour and the supreme sacrifice of the men in uniform in Kargil. The conflict in Kargil involved the largest peace-time mobilisation of Indian troops of which 20,000 were believed to have been involved in actual operations in the harsh and inhospitable terrain. The conflict also saw four of our men receive India’s highest military honour – the “Param Vir Chakra” for their valour and act of extraordinary courage during the operations. Two of the four (Capt Manoj Kumar Pandey and Capt Vikram Batra received the honour posthumously).

Pay your homage to these brave souls and the 527 who never came back

These men must not be forgotten. The stories of their valour must be told and re-told.  As you go about your day today, please spare a thought for the families of these bravehearts…and please forward this to fellow Indians. We will not forget.

From Kashmir Information:

They’d promised their families they’d come back soon.

They more than kept their word…

(They) went as mere men (and) came back as heroes. In coffins.

Thank you for reminding the sacrifice made by our brave men. These men laid their lives, so that rest of the country can live in peace. Familes of these men should feel proud of their sacrifice. Whether rest of the country remember them or not, these brave men had made a difference to the lives of their fellow countrymen. But for their victory, the country would now be crawling in front of the enemies.

Thanks for the post. The least we can do is to remember these heroes and feel for them. One drop of Martyr’s blood is more inspiring than 1000s of lectures on higher values and inspiration!! Our salutations.
