What do you make of this?
Courtesy Bhaskar Chatterjee, I stumbled on this “map” on a section of the the ToI website:
Might this be a strawman / trial balloon to see how a solution that makes the LoC as a permanent border is received by the public? or am I reading too much into this?
I remember the days when such a map in an Indian publication would have led to copies of the magazine/newspaper being confiscated and/or banned and the offending map censored. I also remember one of the first “official” letters I wrote in the IFS, soon after joining the Embassy of India many years ago. It was to protest against a similar map that was printed in the Japan Times (this was 1994). But I guess times have changed.

Article after article has appeared on vijayvaani.com and vigilonline.com; Arvind Lavakare has written copiously on the subject and so has Claude Arpi: our govt. sold us out long ago. They are just figuring out how to tell us.
I wonder if TOI is a Pakistan agent. Even the wiki like about pakistan doesn’t show this map, its interesting how TOI got this kinda map, may be they got it drawn from one of their aman ki asha team members. Given a chance, TOI will sell India to pakistan in the name of aman ki asha I guess.
Times of India should at least change its name to reflect its priorities. What a shame!
Couple of years back I saw a similar map in an article in Indian Express. The article was about how situation is so bad in the ‘Indian Occupied Kashmir’ and had a similar map. I left a comment below the article, complaining about the map and text in the article. In half hours time the map was changed and text was revised…and my comment was removed..
There is no ‘conspiracy’ or anything here. It is down to simple yet so glaring reason. Failure of our education system! The system that creates glorified clerks and peons than ‘educated’ souls! And by not giving due appreciation to skills and competency of a person irrespecitive of who the person is, we all are complicit in it..
ToI has changed the map now..
I think it’s best for everyone if the LoC is just Internationally accepted as the border between India and Pakistan. We can then move on with our lives.
What do we gain by deluding ourselves that we control the other side as well? For all practical purposes the other side belongs to Pakistan. Let’s accept realities and move on.

WHO SAYS SO…..IF THE SO-CALLED UN SECURITY COUNCIL APPLIES TO INDIA, WE SHOULD NOT FORGET THAT IT APPLIES TO PAKISTAN MORE THAN INDIA.
PAKISTAN HAS NO MORAL RIGHT AND NEEDS TO VACATE THAT PART OF KASHMIR WHICH IT HAS ILLEGALLY OCCUPIED SINCE 1947.
I THINK “BJP” NEEDS TO BRUSH UP ON FACTS RELATED TO THE VEXED KASHMIR ISSUE.
Forget about other side of the LoC, I can argue that we don’t even have control on this side of the “disputed” land. When an ordinary Indian citizen can’t even buy land there or the original inhabitants (read Kashmiri Pundits) can’t even go back there, how and with what face can we call it Indian land (the Kashmir south of the LoC)?
I am not pro-Congress or pro-BJP, but there is nothing to be gained by a rhetoric. India has a strategy against terrorism. That effective weapon against terrorism is called exploding population. Mr. Terrorist, who ever you are, you can never defeat India, for you kill hundred, we got 200 more born! No one cares, be it Jaipur, Hyderabad, Parliament, Aksharadham, Mumbai attacks.
The map ToI had is most probably from CIA pages. ToI has tried to be smart and have ToI/topic/xyz pages on each topic, like an encyclopedia and mere copied from here and there. The highly educated ToI web coder has no idea where on the world map is India. He copies the CIA map, uploads it on his page!
By the way today 23 April, it is now changed to a green moon and star.
