THIS IS real SEWA..
Thanks to Radha-ji for alerting me to this extraordinary story of Uday Gatti…Pl read on (emphasis added)…
Say ‘stray dog menace’ and you’re bound to hear opinions from all sides of the spectrum. But when a stray dies, so does the clamour and it’s left to the likes of Uday Gatti to bury the dead.
Gatti (42), who runs a shop near Pilar in Someshwara gram panchayat limits near Tokottu in Mangalore, has buried at least 40 dogs so far though he’s lost count of the actual number. “This is my service to the public,†he told Bangalore Mirror. “I have even touched rotting carcasses of dogs without feeling dirty. Most people continue on their way, covering their noses, and a few stop to look at the dead animal but no one removes it,†he said.
Gatti has had a special affection for animals since his school days — he now has eight cats and a dog at home. Not content with that, he also picks up sick street dogs and pet dogs deserted by their owners and looks after them.
In fact, every one in the locality knows his mobile number and when he gets a call, Gatti shuts his shop and rushes to the spot. For him, service comes first, then business despite coming from a poor background.
Gatti often participates in shramadanas in his locality and has donated blood about 15 times.
I salute Uday and his selfless devotion...He is a true inspiration to all of us who grumble about poor civic services but do not think even for a minute on what can we do as individuals…If anyone of you is able to trace down this remarkable young man, please email me his contact details/phone number on jaidharma AT gmail.com Thanks.
Truly, touching.
May his kind increase.
This is truly inspiring. This is greatness! Thanks Shantanu for publishing this!
