Rage, anger, frustration and the MahA Mantra

This post is straight from the heart…It has been a very long time since I have felt so overwhelmed with rage, anger, frustration and a feeling of helplessness…

But something tipped over today…
Something tipped over that brought tears in my eyes even before I had my first cup of tea this morning…
Something tipped over that made me type these words even before I had brushed my teeth…
Something tipped over that made my forget all my pending emails and important calls…
Something tipped over today…

Was that something the gnawing feeling that most of us (in the memorable words of Swapan Dasgupta – “people like us”) simply do not care?

Somedays it feels so dark, so lonely and so hopeless…reminded me of a winter morning some months ago

Today is one such day…I need to introspect…and gather my strength again. Today is a day for the Maha-Mantra

Maha Mrityunjay Mantra

    My heartfelt commiserations.
Hold on to that anger. Your blog is great and you are doing your bit.
A lot of nationalist Hindus, I am sure, feel this way.
Boond boond say sagar banta hai.

Clearly you needed the Maha Mrutyunjay Mantra today. It’s a good idea to use it everyday, just to keep the negativity away.

I understand many of your feelings. It can be intolerable sometimes. But we have to keep hope alive or the country will be lost.

There will always be thoughts that can derail one’s sleep. Moreover, if you want strong India, spotless politicians, rule of Dharma (whatever that means – I notice that none of your posts ever discuss the organisation of Hindu Dharma. You might have more sleepless nights if you begin to discuss that), a Prime Minister that works his way up by asking question in LS etc you will always have a long list of unfulfilled dreams.

Instead, let me suggest a small project. On every day that an Indian soldier loses life while fighting for the country, I would like NDTV (and every Indian channel) to reserve a small amount of time in every news broadcast – 30 seconds will do – to pay homage to that Indian soldier – give his name, a word about his family. Ask your readers to ask NDTV why they are not doing that when BBC does without fail day on day. That is what serving the nation is all about.

To quote Van Morrison, ‘My mamma told me, there will be days like this”. This is indeed a depressing picture. It is worrying. We got to do what got to do and just leave the result to God. Your blog inspires lot of people… so, here is wishing for many more small steps towards the goal. But, Hey, for the Aam Admi T-20 Champions League is round the corner to forget all this and cricket World Cup is just 8 months away. After Raja’s 3-G and Common Wealth scandal, the bar has been raised. It would take a lot more to shock our people… we have become numb to corruption. …

    @ Moderator
Probably I couldn’t get the theme of this post. After seeing the post on your frustration, I felt there is some contribution I can do by discussing the evils of ideologies that have damaged the fabric of Indian culture and give likely spiritual solutions for the problems prevelant today.

I thought we also needed an overhaul of ideologies which are not working well for India like communism. so I posted that link.
    ——————————–

For solution we must look into our shastras. The vedic literatures have got solution for our problems. some we can read are Chanakya niti-shastra, Shrimad Bhagavatam, Bhagavad Gita etc…

    Shantanu ji,

I think corruption of this breadth and depth is symptomatic of utter moral degeneration even among general public. In Patanjali’s eight fold Yoga path, the first is Yama. The second among Yama’s is Satya (Truth). Our society is currently running 180-degrees opposite to Truth. That is, opposite to Yoga. This is the root cause of degeneration.

Unless that is fixed, any amount of “systemic” changes will not work. First of all, the systemic changes will not even be implemented. Even if they are implemented, all manner of tricks will be employed to work around them.

As your blog title says, “Truth alone Triumphs”. Only a Truth revolution can change things.

That is why, I think a handful of tremendous spiritual + political leaders of the order of Sri Aurobindo, + Gandhi + Tilak + politically oriented Vivekananda, are the need of the hour. Only leaders who can rebuild moral foundations can change things.

Let the young people take up Yoga sadhana, raise their energies and level of consciousness, and then enter political battle to preserve Dharma.

  10. Madhusudan says:

    @chaitanya

That was spot on. “Moral degeneration” rightly said.
Yoga is the solution. It is lack of God consciousness which is the root of all the evil.

Thru Yoga we connect with the supreme which is a state of pure Goodness. Yoga as we all know means ‘joining’ our consciousness with the Supreme Lord. Moral righteousness is just a side effect of Yoga.

This must be preached. Bhagavad Gita must be preached to the masses. By learning/teaching the Gita, gentlemen can be created in the society.

    Uh, Oh!:

Even as one controversy after another continues to haunt the Commonwealth Games, questions are now being asked as to what happened to the Apex Committee constituted to oversee the games.

The committee included Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi as one of its members.

…The committee..had as its members Gandhi, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Ratan Tata, Vijay Mallya, Sandeep Dikshit, Jitin Prasada, and Anand Mahindra amongst others.

The terms of reference of the committee were that it had over-riding power and responsibility for overseeing and coordinating the Commonwealth Games-2010.

Asked as to what had happened to the Apex Committee, Mani Shankar Aiyar who succeeded Sunil Dutt denied any knowledge of such a notification.

“Whether this committee existed or not was never brought to my notice. I was not even aware of this high-powered committee which had Rahul as one of its members,” he told Hindustan Times.

  12. Dear Shantanu

I’m with you. I’ve felt the rage for decades now. It never stopped, and after years of looking for solutions I decided in 1998 that the policies MUST be changed. Our disastrous mixing of religion and politics, and misguided socialism, combined with a Colonial administration system, have totally destroyed the innards of India. So it is inevitable that a major political movement is necessary.

It is more than 12 years since I reached that conclusion, and the sad reality even today is that we don’t have even 1500 leaders in this GREAT BIG LAND who want to change things THEMSELVES. Everyone is busy asking others to change, but no one will step forward and lead. And yet, the minimum we need to kick-start change is a solid group of leaders from all corners of India. What can be done for a country of slaves and clerks? No citizens!

I have summarised the path thus, at: http://bit.ly/b0sfbe:

    1. Find the right leaders first who agree on the solutions/ policies/ strategies.

    2. Get the right support and funding.

    3. Ask the people of India if they want to change.

    4. If guaranteed of majority in parliament, contest elections and offer to transform India with the agreed policy platform.

    5. ELSE LEAVE INDIA. If the people don’t want to change nothing can be done. Just leave!

Some people in response to this simplified pathway got really confused by (5)! But they didn’t think it worthwhile to do (1) or (2)! Why bother about (5)? Why not focus on (1) and (2)?

What is needed is therefore very simple (in theory), but I struggle to understand why Indians are such a defeated lot. They give up without even trying. Vivekananda would have excoriated them with a sharp tongue, and not just asked them to arise and awake, but would have berated them for refusing to take responsibility for their own society. What kind of a country is this that we were born into?

We must not forget what the seers of India wrote thousands of years ago: “Give us power not to become insensitive and silent spectators to social, moral and political evils and bestow us necessary wrath to fight these evils” (Rig Veda 1-97-8)

We need anger, and we need strategy. The two must combine.

Instead, we have become a spineless nation like that otherwise nice man MMS, happy to meekly serve, like a mouse, a semi-literate, deeply corrupted, Italian-born woman. What can be done with such spineless clerks who condone all the corruption they see around them; who can’t fix the system to eliminate corruption?

The raw material we have at hand in India is made of mud. Happily they serve the corrupt; no self-respect, no pride in themselves. They are a defeated lot. Mother India has created clerks for the past two generations. I don’t know what can be done about it.

But just a few hundred self-respecting people can transform India.

Where do we find them? That is the question.

Let me hasten to add that you did a great job at IIT Delhi on 2 August! You are building strong credibility as a powerful leader. Please keep up this outstanding work. All we need now is 1500 Shantanus and the job will be done.
I urge ALL good leaders of India to assemble at the Freedom Team of India (http://freedomteam.in/).

We have a long journey ahead to fix the problems of India, and the longer people wait to join, the longer this journey will take.

Every generation has the task of vigilance and citizen participation. Let this generation FINALLY wake up from its deep slumber.

    Regards
    Sanjeev

  13. Ram Divecha says:

@7 Nice attempt to deflect. Just like a good congress politician. I asked about organisation of Dharma, not about political ideology. I request you to spend a few sleepless nights on the topic. I could make the question simpler.

If I face persecution because of being a Hindu, who do I turn to?
If I notice that some bodies are spreading canards about Hinduism, where do I register my complaint? Which body will handle my grievance? Is there any body that represents Hindus as a whole? Who heads the body? how does that body run? How is it funded?

Ideology cannot protect you from determined aggressors, only an organisation can.

  14. Ramesh says:

It is not we do not care. It is the fact that ordinary people are powerless, non-entities. A few politicians (the quota variety) control everything, make or force divisive agendas and take no responsibility for their actions. It is also a fact that the quota-politicians have become a serious threat to the very right to life of the non-quota people.
