Quote of the Week
Is this a mohalla meeting that we have gathered all these people (from Ladakh, Jammu, Poonch and Rajouri) to discuss local affairs?
– Yasin Malik, Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front
Brief excerpt from Madhu Kishwar’s Open Letter to Yasin Malik:
In the November 7 meeting, you expressed your annoyance over the fact that representatives from Ladakh, Jammu, Poonch, and Rajouri had been invited. You dismissed their presence with open contempt saying: “Is this a mohalla meeting that we have gathered all these people to discuss local affairs?”
This attitude of assuming that it is only Kashmiri Muslims of the Valley— and that too of a certain political persuasion— who ought to have the right to determine the future of the entire state of J&K has created huge fault lines and murderously hostile camps in the State.

No that was not a Mohalla meeting to discuss livelihood issues, but a meeting to spread hatred.
Nice one Shri Yasin.

Dear shantanu,
sometimes hearing the Kashmir pro liberation talks makes one depressed and frustrated. the state has a revenue of rs. 3000 crores on its own but a salary bill of rs. 6593 crores. pension is another rs. 1412 crores.this is without expenses of central forces and other expenses of central govt. so how do they propose to finance an azad kashmir?
will the other indians continue to fund an azaad kashmir? to day not many complain about this because kashmir is an integeral part of india. but small independant states cannot survive on their own. even assam with all its oil revenue cannot survive. when will they learn that a government needs to generate revenue take care of its citizens which even the most inefficient govt of india is doing.
all figures are budget estimate for 2009-10

I doubt if such concerns are at the top of the leadership’s agenda…

The day may not be far when the Assam, Nagaland, then Kerala, they all start demanding the special status as given to Kashmir.
The country is above individual, caste, class or state.
But, the point is, who is bothered about the country?
