Post Diwali blues
Trying to cope with post-Diwali blues – triggered by the last few lines in a recent email by Dr Kalyanaraman:
Delays dog China border roads. China building dam on Brahmaputra;
Rahul Gandhi says interlinking (of rivers) is no good. PM says it needs study.
Who is taking care of India’s interests, with a sense of urgency?
To make it worse, some random, nagging thoughts from the last few days…
- Where are the protests against a particularly blatant example of communal campaigning in Maharashtra – or is such vitriol only reserved for certain people whose name begins with a V?
- Where is the outrage when a young Hindu man is found dead in suspicious circumstances, eerily similar to the tragic death of a certain young man in Kolkata by the name of Rizwan?
- What hope there is when even a supposedly soft/”nice”/”feel good” tradition like Sufism is diluted “…to suit the palate of other communities but (is) unwilling to assimilate their strands”? Is this another evidence of the slow de-Indianisation of Indian Muslims?
- Where is the sense of urgency as Pakistan threatens to descend into chaos?
- Where is the demand for details of back-room deal(s) on Jammu & Kashmir?
- Where is the determination to tackle a violent movement that now appears to strike at will?
- Where is the outrage as the establishment blatantly promotes further divisiveness (Hat Tip: Varnam on Twitter)?
- Where is the sense of alarm that things are not quite as they should be?
I am trying hard but it is becoming increasingly difficult to remain upbeat and optimistic. Whither India? Whither Bharat?

Somewhat related post from last year, around this time: “The Godfather of Bangalore†– Excerpts
I am trying hard but it is becoming increasingly difficult to remain upbeat and optimistic.
There is a permanent solution for this. Recently I came across work by Dr. Albert Ellis:
ABC Model
Three major musts
I read the above two pages slowly/carefully, whenever I despair! It helps me to refocus back, quickly recover and regain the strength to act positively. It’s not easy!! Some parts of Three musts (Part II) are relevant here. 🙂
I’m not belittling the problems. Just sharing some information, that’s all. Feel free to ignore!
Thanks kk..will have a look
Yup
Things have gone really downhill in the last 6 years. We are in the process of losing everything we gained after independence.
I believe at the cost of being call a conspiracy theorist that this is by design. Antonia Maino is by design, Targetting northeast and AP and TN are also by design as is the wretched Nuclear deal.
Is there no patriot in the congress
I feel your pain. I too wonder sometimes whether anything is happening on issues that are too important to be ignored.
But in my case, I feel that things are moving forward slowly. We have much to be grateful for and much has changed. So in my opinion, while looking at all that can be improved is good, seeing what we have achieved gives the strength to actually do something about it.
Let hope not die
You gotta read this interview with KPS Gill by Harinder Baweja
Thanks for the link Nishka…have also tweeted it…
Not whither india/bharat shantanu
Wither bharat/india
Remember the good old Will durant: no civilisation gets destroyed until it has thoroughly corroded itself from within.
India is like that. It will die.
Fortunately, hinduism will live because of its ardent and determined believers.
The land will most likely be gone, but the dream will not die.
Folks you can follow my tweets too Nishkak 🙂
