Slowly but steadily, China marches ahead…
…into Indian territoryĀ š
Buried amongst the avalance of news on the web, I found this alarming snippet:
…A tiny area in Sikkim has become the latest bone of contention between India and China, with the latter asking Indian army to remove a pile of stones failing which it would be demolished.
India, while noting that the boundary there has already been demarcated, has told China not to transgress into the ‘finger’ area in north Sikkim…
The way the incident is reported, it looks asĀ if it is India that needs to be apologetic not China (now, where have I heard that before?):
..India has conveyed its readiness to discuss the issue to avoid conflagration…sources pointed out that it was not unusual for the army patrols of either country to venture into areas which are disputed along the Line of Actual Control (LOAC).
Please note:Ā “…the Sikkim boundary has been demarcated and recognised by the two countries long ago in 1959…” BUT itĀ apparentlyĀ is “one of the most peaceful but unsettled border”!
No – I did not not understand that either…but noĀ need to loose sleep over this:
“New Delhi, however, does not see it has any cause for worry, saying that such ”problems” will keep happening and the two countries will discuss to resolve these.”
The Indian Express report has a bit more colour to the story:
“…The row began to build up last year when Chinese troops started to frequent the area far too often ā this year too about 50 Chinese transgressions have been reported in this area ā and then started building a road towards the end of the year that crossed this tract of land.
When India objected to this at a local military commander level, China claimed that the area fell in its territory. A shocked Indian side then produced a 1924 map of the Survey of India where the stone cairns have been identified and shown as part of Indian territory.
When China did not pay much attention to this, India even lodged a diplomatic protest in February with the Chinese government on this issue. This was after China had protested other troop deployments in Sikkim resulting from relocation of India troops from the western border. As a result of this diplomatic escalation, the road construction near the area came to a halt.
Realising that this could suddenly escalate into a major controversy, the Indian side started beefing up its positions and constructing pathways in the area. Sources said this further annoyed China, which re-emphasised its claim.
The bigger question that has emerged from this issue, China destroying a makeshift bunker at Doka La near the Sino-Sikkim-Bhutan trijunction and then the protest of India troop movements, sources said, is a Chinese effort to bring Sikkim back into the boundary controversy.
…what was considered a settled issue once China recognized Sikkim as part of India is now making an uncomfortable re-entry into the boundary settlement discourse.”
.
Can you see a pattern here? This is what I see:
1. Choose anĀ area of the border which is hitherto considered “settled” or “not disputed”
2.Ā Make a small road, destroy a bunker or just increase the number of “patrols” that accidentally transgressĀ the region
2. When the expected Indian “protest” happens,Ā agree to discuss this issue – even when there is no “issue” at all – and even when the terrritory was clearly Indian territory andĀ when we (China) areĀ clearly in the wrong (correction: we can never be in the wrong)
3. By agreeing to such talks, we will be seen asĀ a “responsible” neighbour; we will beĀ able to bring a settled issue back on the table; and we willĀ be able to divert attention from other things happening elsewhere..
In other words, imagine a neighbour who breaks part of your fence, then agrees to sit down and “discuss” this issue, all the while stealthily and steadily encroaching on your land from the other end…Get the picture?
Sadly our political leadership doesn’t – or chooses not to…But why blame them…when their own survival is at the mercy of the “red power”?

Brother Shantanu,
You are a true citizen and son of the fatherland. Our beloved Republic has long been in the hands of madmen and tyrants. Long has it been prevented from her rightful glory by the blustering fools that pose as her leaders. The BJP- fundamentalist whores and self-elevating hypocrites that they are – will split the country in two with their polarizing agenda of hatred. The Congress, while with good and rightful intention, is too pacifist to pursue a strong policy on these matters. And the Reds!- they are nothing less than slaves of our barbarian enemies and traitors of the Repblic. They ought to have their hands cut off and nailed in the forum!
But there is hope my friend. Within the decade will emerge a new generation of leaders- true men of strength and honor that put their fatherrland above all else. Men that do not succumb to the temptation of riches or personal glory, but that seek only the glory of the Republic. Tell everyone then that the wheels are in motion, a new generation of leaders from all over the world with the blood of the fatherland in their veins shall return home, and with them bring the hope of a new and glorious destiny.
Tell everyone that the time has arrived: the time for the TRIBERIUM COUNCIL is here!
Long live the Republic! May Mars and Janus ever keep her
Relationship: India vis-a-vis China
The recent trip by Indian External Affairs Minister, Mukherjee, is just another example of how China looks at India and its relationship – as a bit of unavoidable shit. The whole relationship as far as China is concerned is simple and straightforward: business – use Indian brians and use India’s huge market to make more money.
It is long time clear that China has no respect to Indian sovergnity or territorial integrity. Our own fellow-travellers are the Trojan horses of China. They are so determined on expansinism and grab as much of Indian territories, be it in Ladakh, Sikkim, North Eastern states wherein huge quantities of arms, weapons and trouble continually flowing. Indian govt., being what they are, can do nothing sofar!
At best Indian policy is reactive, suffers from apparent inferiority complex, akin to its handling of so many important issues – whether external or internal.
It is time to break this mould. India should make itself clear what it wants from China and state clearly that it demands mutual respect and good neighbourly relations, based on civilised negotiations done in a spirit of give and take and in an atmosphere of adult maturity.
Lest, this country is doomed to be treated as a sub-standard nation in the global arena, albeit its huge FX bank balance.
One is afraid that this country will likely remain for a long time as just a huge bunch of crowds, acting in mob frenzy trying to grab whatever it can get with no qualms and without working hard to deserve .
If this is our karmic cycle, then even Lord Krishna cannot save us!
God Bless

Placing this here for the record: India has recorded well over 600 “transgressions” – the government’s euphemism for cross-border intrusions – all along the unresolved 4,057-km Line of Actual Control (LAC) by the People’s Liberation Army over the last three years.
ToI, 600 border violations by China along LAC since 2010
