A “broken” democracy…

Just came across this quote by Al Gore (asking people become more directly involved in climate change) in TIME Magazine*.

You can pretty much say the same things about our political situation and governance…It resonated so much that I am reproducing it here (slightly paraphrased for the Indian context, emphasis mine):

“I’m trying to say to you, be a part of the change..No one else is going to do it. The politicians are paralyzed.

The people have to do it for themselves!…

Our democracy hasn’t been working very well…We’ve made a bunch of serious policy mistakes. But its way too simple and way too partisan to blame the…Adminstration. We’ve got checks and balances, an independent judiciary, a free press, a Congress (read Parliament)…

– have they all failed us? Have we failed ourselves?”

This aboslutely resonates with our condition today at all levels.
We have begun to fail ourselves & the situation will further degenerate if the people-power does not awaken to bring about a great sweep. For too long we have developed the easy & comfortable habit of criticising & blaming & then getting along again for a while as if nothing has happened & nothing can change. A vaster impulse inspired by deeper ideals towards national resurgence has to come and it can be only done through commited self-development & activism, by our indifference we have given way to ‘lootocracy’ & lumpenisation’ in & of public life & national growth, by our propensity today to just talk & continue without taking responsibilities is bound further expedite the the process of greater de-nationalisation & the advent of the day when we may engaged in a bitter battle against further balkanisation.
Audacious audacity, tremedous will, unshakable faith & boundless action are needsof the day.

Absolutely, If we see otherway round than US has good governance, comparing to ours still people are so much concerned about eveything. And in India, Everything is “ULTA PULTA” still the attitude is who cares?
