Those of you who read Guy Kawasaki may have read his post published last year on “What I Learned from Steve Jobs“. One of the sentences in that post caught my eye…and has stayed at the back of my mind ever since (emphasis added)…
…the starting point of changing the world is changing a few minds.
This is the greatest lesson of all that I learned from Steve..
A similar thought was the inspiration behind the blog – all the way back in 2004!
We have come a long way since then…Thanks to …

Dear All: Here is a brief video snippet from my talk at IIT Jodhpur last Saturday…The entire talk was delivered extempore.. It was a Saturday morning – and the occasion was Ignus 2012 – IIT Jodhpur’s Annual Festival..so power-point was out of question! It was a great experience and one of the largest group of students I have ever addressed…
In this 9-min video, I explain what is it that I spend most of my time on, what is it that I do?

This post was finally triggered by this tweet from Bibek Debroy:
Is it true that anti-govt tweets are being censored/deleted?
Now, I am not sure whether this is actually happening or not (would not surprise me)…but in the spirit of being fore-warned = fore-armed etc., here are a few tips and suggestions…

A few weeks back, at one of my frequent sessions at Chanakya Institute of Public Leadership, I got the chance to share my thoughts on the proposed Communal Violence Bill with participants in the programme. We had a lively discussion against the backdrop of some slides I had prepared. Unfortunately we could not record the session…Below are the slides…Comments, thoughts welcome.

A few days back, I filed my first application under RTI for 2012. I did this online via RTINation. Considering that RTI Nation is a young start-up, the experience was fairly satisfactory. I will probably give it another try sometime later this year.
My application was to find out more information about the jury for the SK Singh Award. Some of you may remember this news-report that was published in several newspapers in Jan: “S.K. Singh award for nuclear trouble-shooter Venkatesh Varma”. Venkatesh is 3 years my senior in the Indian Foreign …

Many of you may remember this shloka that used to preface each episode of the seminal series “Chanakya”. I continue to find it profoundly inspiring…Here’s wishing you and your loved ones the very best of health, happiness and prosperity in 2012…
|| Om Shanti, Shanti, Shanti… ||

I would be grateful if any of you can help me with the translation of the entire shloka. Thanks.

In a post titled, “Politics and democracy“, Pragmatic Euphony mentions why it is important to get the nomenclature right (emphasis added):
Whatever might be your primary vocation, once you are in politics, you are a politician.
Does it matter? Yes, it does. This narrative betrays a lack of trust in our politics and politicians — an economist is better than a politician. In a democracy, there is no way of bypassing politics; politicians should and must matter. It is dangerous to assume that a non-politician can fix the system. Yesterday it was …

I stumbled on this post by my good friend Sanjay Anandaram and was struck with how much it resonated with me – especially as I recently had a conversation along very similar lines with a young and passionate political-activist. Substitute “political activism” for “startup” and see if this resonates with you…Excerpts from “Balancing life and work“:
“My wife walked out of the house last week. I’ve known her for seven years and we’ve been married for five years and now I feel our relationship is purely transactional. I’m consumed by my …

Uplifting post of the week..in which small steps do make a difference.
Three days ago, on the post related to “distant” Assam, long-time blog reader Kaffir alerted us to a BBC news-report which had a map of India with the entire state of J&K lopped off (pl see comment #9). Here is a cached screenshot of the article (pl click to enlarge):
Kaffir subsequently wrote to the BBC:
I told them that the map was incorrect, that J&K was very much part of India, gave them a link to GOI website that …
