News-item in DB Star (Bhaskar) and my response..

The Indore edition of Bhaskar DB Star published a news-item on Pg2 this morning (18th Jan) which mentioned allegations of fraud in the matter of signatures that accompanied the AAP candidate nomination forms for Indore Lok Sabha. Below is my response to the allegations, along with a snapshot of the relevant extract:

Dear Madam/Sir: I would like to put on record my strong denial of a report published in today’s DB Star Bhaskar (Pg2), Indore edition regarding the nomination process of AAP Lok Sabha candidates.

I am surprised that the reporter(s) made no attempt to contact me for my response in spite of the allegations against me.

I would be grateful if you could kindly publish my response below and set the record straight.
I look forward to hearing from you,

** My response to the report **

Quite surprised to know that you have joined AAP?

    Dear Shantanu
I agree with the view that Indian Media be it English or vernacular both are biased and do not care for the facts more so in westernised English Media. I condemn such biased practises by Media. I believe that there must be some financiers to promote such practices. Indian Media is openly a “Dollar Media ” as told by one of my friends who was an Editor of large Marathi News paper in Pune for 15 years.
I do sympathise with your view. At the same time I have seen and heard malpractices by common miscreants in society, who do any thing and every thing if paid for such acts.

It is a challenge to change the attitudes on both sides. Indian society has lost it’s morals to the core.

    Dr. Ambekar.

This should be strongly condemned and protested. We all know that politics that is prevalent in India is dirty and corrupt. Newspaper are hands with such practices. Time has come when we should be loud and fearless to pull the lies down.

    Jai Hind.

The allegation doesn’t surprise me. You don’t have to do anything wrong for them to point a finger at you. I am just wondering whether you could have ignored it. Did you really have to respond to it? I guess they will play on your thin skin if you betray too much sensitivity.

Secondly, I am far more saddened by the first comment singling out Indian media. I have a feeling Indian media are no better or no worse than the others I have followed and I do follow channels from at least 6 countries! (At the very least, the Indian media are managing their own finances unlike BBC, for one example.)

There might be two reasons. One would be that the reporter didn’t understand the news and created as understood vaguely. The second reason would be reporter created fake stories to sensationalizing the news and getting cheap publicity. Let me tell you both of the ways are wrong. News is a reprehensibility, not a matter of cheap publicity.
