Gut-wrenching & stomach churning..(Not Suitable for Work or for Children; Extremely Disturbing)

Dear Friends, below is a horrifying and truly gut-wrenching 3-minute video that will shock you to the core. I was alerted to this courtesy, Radha Rajan-ji of VigilOnline. It comes from a slaughter house in Kerala (to be verified). As Radha-ji mentioned in her email (emphasis added), there is a good chance

…most of you will not watch it because our stomach turns in guilt, shame and intense pain because our inaction, our silence is also complicity in the crime.

This is not an ethical way to treat animals leave alone ethical way to kill them. A pig and a cow are killed in identical manner and the agony …says what we have become as a nation. We who don’t care are the criminals here. And this manner of aasuric killing is not confined to Kerala; it happens across the country. We need to re-look our slaughter houses, we need to re-assess what should be the fundamental of our economy. There is no morality anymore in our lives when this happens around the country and no one has seen fit to raise his/her voice. Your life wont be the same again.

So watch it all of you and feel the pain we are causing animals by our inaction, our silence, indifference.

If someone knows the author and or can help me locate who shot it, I shall be grateful (and will of course acknowledge here). More importantly, can someone pl help me locate this slaughter-house in Kerala?

The brutality is unacceptable. It cannot be allowed to continue. . Please leave a comment below if you can help in some efforts I am considering to stop this monstrosity.

  1. Shantanu,
I am sorry, I couldn’t watch it. Please do investigate it and kindly let me know, I shall write more in media to enlighten people about it. It is a national shame, UPA govt must be held responsible. Kerala has UPA ally Govtof Omen Chandy, a christian. Shame.

  2. I didn’t see this particular video, but I can agree that the treatment of animals in India is shameful.

On the other hand we have animal rights activists like Maneka Gandhi who won’t allow stray dogs (that bite) to be removed and destroyed (mercifully) – thereby creating a major public nuisance.

My sense is that all systems have broken down. Completely. But any patchwork solutions simply can’t. Hence the need for whole-of-system reform of governance. At least we need to create incentives for politicians and bureaucrats to implement existing laws. But in the case of animals, I believe much stronger laws will be needed, as well.

Slaughter has to be humane ; there are protocols that are specified and these have obviously been violated. The SPCA is empowered to take action against cruel practices. My suggestion is that you please look up Temple Grandin on the subject of humane slaughter practices and see about getting a PIL on the matter before the Honble Supreme Court of India .A ruling on the matter by the Supreme Court can then be enforced as the law of the land and will empower individuals and organisations to take local action.
    thanks

BARBARIC! BARBARIC! BARBARIC! An action equal to murder should be made imminent for this cruelty.

  5. This is disgusting. Utterly shameful, that humans turned into ‘aasur’. If this is true then they should be punished for the crime.

    Jay Bharat!

Horrible. cant believe this is happeining in India.

  7. Nanda says:

I’m sweating all over out of helplessness, shame and fury. Humanity is completely lost, these people who are significant in number in India are worse than the worst and cannot be even compared to animals. This is not just one slaughter house, but just one of many. Temple worshippers society is doing a great job in their capacity, but I pains me so much to think that we might have cross the threshold to be able to prevent such barbaric behaviors.

  8. Akhil Gautam says:

there should be a complete ban on meat and all butcheries be closed. Why is govt silent its obvious and also our own Hindu brethren are equally responsible who leave the cattle in lurch after they are past their milk-producing age.
I cant understand why people need to eat meat at all..!

  9. Jigish says:

I hope you know that UPA led GOI is issuing licenses and promoting meat production. (Bharat is officially the largest BEEF exporter in the world ahead of Australia. Just Google it. ) If I am born as AK-47 in next life, I would kill the rascal Hindus first who pretend to worship cow as mother but in reality consume meat on DAILY basis which is why such places are flourishing. (They are growing @ a rate of more than 100%)

    Comment on facebook:
Dear All: Thank you for your comments..A few quick points:
    1. This is not really about meat-eating or vegetarianism. I am sure you will all agree that there are more humane ways to kill animals>
    2. This is more about a complete break-down of laws and their implementation.
As Vinay mentioned, I would probably not blame the people who are seen doing this either – they have been thoroughly de-sensitized and who knows their compulsions behind this work..
The main point is what can we do about this..
Anyone willing to get in touch with various organisations etc mentioned in my post above?
    Many thanks.

  11. Rajesh says:

This is sick.. PETA will be busy shotting nude models somewhere.. Animal rights activists are probably busy behind some stray dogs probably..

I’ll be happy if your actions come give any results.

Sorry I don’t have the stomach to watch this video:( Thank you Shantanu for trying to do something about it, you have my full support. I’m sharing this link immediately with my vast number of non-vegetarian relatives and friends and hoping that they will introspect and help stop this cruelty towards defenseless animals. I will never understand why so many educated people are non-vegetarian:(

  17. krisna says:

could not watch more than a few seconds. gut wrenching. why cannot people adopt a less painful way of having meat. wonder if they themselves are subjected to this cruelty then they will realise the pain of the animals.

shantanu, God will surely bless you. Keep up the good work.

  18. VJ says:

On a national level, to maintain so many slaughterhouses for the sake of satisfying the human beings’ taste for eating flesh will continue to produce reactions that will constantly disturb the very peace we are trying to establish in the world.
We have to consider the amount of fear and pain animals are forced to endure when taken to the slaughter house. This certainly causes an immense amount of violence to permeate the atmosphere, which goes out and falls back on us in some form. Furthermore, the adrenalin and fear in the animal also produces toxins which then permeate the body of these animals, which meat-eaters then ingest. People who consume such things cannot help but be effected by it. It causes tensions within them individually, which then spreads in their relations with others. This is one of the reasons why we may experience quarrels, hostilities, or even international tensions and wars.

  19. Beena says:

I didnt have the heart to even start the video as I know I will not be able to endure even watching the poor animals suffer. Its extremely noble of you to try to correct this situation in some way. I do hope your efforts will not go in vain and it will make some change in the system.

  20. Geeta Athreya says:

Oh Shantanu, I really could not watch it! Oh God can they kill if they have to in a more sensitive manner? All killing is horrible. I could not watch it for more than a second. Let us do something. It is sooooo sad. Do people have to eat these things? How can they?

  21. ROHINI says:

I could’nt watch this video for a second. It is obviously the same story in all the slaughter houses around the world. They should just be closed down…people should stop eating meat…because we are not devils…we are humans. An animal’s body part should be used for our purposes (like making leather for shoes, bags etc…) only after it is dead. Please people stop eating meat…don’t kill animals.

  22. Arun says:

This news has come in Asianet, a famous news channel in Kerala.
They played it for 2 days it looks like with some comments from Maneka Gandhi…

From COWS SMUGGLED WITH MOUTHS STITCHED by IndiaFacts Staff, February 03, 2014:
A shocker of a news report comes from Bidar in Karnataka. The following is a paraphrase of a news report that first appeared in the Kannada newspaper Hosa Diganta.

On Wednesday (29 January 2014), after the conclusion of the Governor’s speech in the Assembly, the Bidar South MLA Mr. Ashok Kheny brought to the Assembly’s notice a shocking development.

Mr. Kheny said he received repeated complaints regarding numerous incidents of cows being smuggled overnight from various villages that fell within the ambit of his constituency. These cows were illegally shipped to Andhra Pradesh, just across the border. What’s more, bags were tied over the mouths of these cows in order to prevent people from hearing the noise these animals would make under such circumstances. In other cases, the cows’ mouths would be literally stitched for the same purpose, and the stitches would be removed once they reached an abattoir.

Mr. Kheny strongly urged the Government to take action against the perpetrators of such barbaric activities.
