Video snippets from a lazy monsoon afternoon, Jul ’09

Respected Anna’s recent campaign & its success reminded me of these video snippets from my talk at Simrol (MP), almost 2 years ago. The over-riding theme during this talk – held in a village temple hall – on a lazy monsoon afternoon was the confidence that change will come…

The recording was done from one end of the open-to-air hall (you can even hear the birds chirping in the background!), so the audio may need to be turned all the way up.

I got very emotional several times during that afternoon; the tone of my voice (especially in Part II) betrays some of that.

In the opening sequence, I speak about my transition to political activism (bear in mind that this visit was just a  few months after my point of no return, mentioned here: “Coming out of the closet: Who is B Shantanu?” )

Part II is almost the end of my talk..In this I mention why I remain hopeful for the future and why change will come. The person speaking after me is Sh Dilip-ji, Sarpanch of Simrol.

Part III has some very touching sentiments from the local Police Inspector…(also pictured here, in this post: “Two years of living dangerously…” )

I am not so sure about the ‘success’ of Anna’s campaign. Kids often throw tantrums to get some toy or chocolate or something. If they get it, it is not general success.
