A brief note I wrote in response to some questions raised on the Indian Army Fans page:

Why politics matters and why corruption maters…even for fans of Indian Army…

Dear Friends and fellow fans of the Indian Armed Forces,
The armed forces of India, the Army, Nay and Air Force do not exist in a vacuum.
Corruption in the army is merely a reflection of what goes on in the broader establishment and at the highest levels of government. You cannot really separate the two.
For those of you who asked, why should it matter?
It should matter because we can never have a first-rate army with a creaking and sick political system.
If you really care for the army, let us make sure that we, our society and our leaders deserve their protection and are worthy of their sacrifices.
Can we make this claim at present?
Thirdly, the telecoms scandal is not the only scandal we will be talking about…In fact, we will probably not talk much about it at all. Do you realise why? Because it is merely a symptom – a symptom of a deeper disease that has its roots elsewhere – not in the spectrum, not in the licenses.
This is what we will try and discuss during the talk – the roots of this malaise and what can be done about it.
Many of you have been talking about “hanging” the culprits – let me assure you that while hanging the “culprits” may make some people feel satisfied and happy that justice has been delivered, it will do nothing to stem corruption. Think why.
And to everyone who is asking what is different between media and IAF, ask yourself – how many times has the media actually engaged with you on understanding and dealing with the root causes of corruption?
Think about these questions before you criticise the admins for creating this event. We hope to see many of you online today at 7pm.

    Jai Hind, Jai Bharat!

P.S. The mis-allocation of licenses and the notional amount lost was more than the entire defence budget of the country! Imagine the extra arms, ammunition and equipment that could have bene purchased, the new faciliteis that could have been built – and the increase in the Army Welfare Fund that could have happened.

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW ABOUT OUR BROTHERS IN INDIAN ARMY

    ***

THE MAIN THING I WOULD LIKE TO PUT A LIGHT ON, IS THAT NOW A DAYS PEOPLE ARE NOT TAKING INTREST IN OUR COUNTRY ITSELF, THIS THING IS VERY SHAMEFULL. HOW CAN PEOPLE TAKE IT SO LIGHT ABOUT OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS WHO ARE RISKING THEIR LIVES FOR US, I WOULD LIKE TO BRING THIS INFRONT OF OUR COUNTRYMEN, THAT PLEASE REMEMBER THOSE WHO HAVE SACRIFICED THEM SELVES , ONLY FOR OUR LIVES…

I FEEL PROUD TO BE AN INDIAN, THIS SHOULD BE IN THE HEART OF EVERY INDIAN, WHETHER IT MIGHT BE FROM ANY RELIGION…

REQUESTING PEOPLE TO FEEL INDIANISM IN THEIR LIVES..

    JAI HIND…
