I didn't notice it earlier. It is indeed a wonderful case study. The response to Milap's query is really funny <b>“Ministry of Railways have now decided to discontinue with the scheme provision of longitudinal middle berths in the coaches”</b> I think by now all officials have learnt how to abuse the RTI Act by providing the most confusing/misleading information to the seekers. No body knows for sure from when they are going to discontinue the longitudinal middle berths. My parents travelled by train a couple of weeks ago and they are still there. I don't think they will be discontinued so easily...there couldn't have been an easier way to a direct 12% increase in the revenues. So gone are the days when one (sitting on the side berth) could enjoy the beauty of the dawn from the distant horizon across the fields from a moving Bhartiya Rail :-(. Not just that, it has become extremely uncomfortable to travel, the whole boggie gets badly cramped with people and their luggage. I know if I complain instead of supporting, people will say "Itna hi comfort chahiye to AC first class mein jao/air se jao. Yahan kyon aaye ho?" After a few more days, like so many other things we will learn to live with Laloo's great innovation called longitudinal middle berths..Passengers' safety and comfort? Here is a President of the greatest democracy (USA), who is proud to call himself as "employee" of the people and happy to be answerable to genuine grievances. Here is a President who is prepared to accept the responsibility for any omissions and commissions in his admin and prepared to take such corrective measures as speedily as necessary. He says "the bug stops here" and is prepared to take on the giant shark AIG to stop the preposterous bonus for incompetence and set the house in order. Can anyone remember of any indian ruler calling himself/herself as an "employee" of people and be prepared to be accountable? When that happens, democracy will be rediscovered.
