Has anyone else seen a similar map…

…in any Indian newspaper? This is the first time I am seeing it in an Indian publication…

Notice the demarcation between pale green and the dark green areas…As most of you would know, they reflect the areas occupied illegally by Pakistan and the part ceded to China.

I wonder if this means that we are veering toewards accepting the LoC as the formal border between India and Pakistan?

Comments and thoughts welcome. And if any of you have seen similar maps elsewhere, could you please link them here? Thanks.

    yes yes yes.

its time for India and Pak to move on.

the LOC demarcation will eventually be the new border between India and Pakistan.

lets be clear here… there is no chance that Kashmir can govern itself… and there is no likely India will concede Kashmir to Pak or Jammu to India… therefore the LOC is the default….

But India will not agree to that until the terrorist infrastructure in Pak is removed.

Really disgusting and ridiculous!! However this is the fact. Even though we draw Map including POK, officially we cannot cross LOC. i.e. our territory ends at LOC. I think this is the time to vanish this most problem causing area POK. Otherwise if this continues no wonder our geography text book maps will also be like the one in picture!!

In my opinion, the this is just an ignorant newspaper illustrator’s ignorance that has lead to the grossly skewed cartographical nomenclature.

I do not intend to debase the argument by the blogger, but would like to point out that Jammu (which is to the south of Kashmir) has been mistakenly been photo-shopped on POK.

I think Indian newspapers are still very nationalistic in their reporting and opinions. This is just a case of sub-editorial overlook.

Let’s not see kinks where there are none.

…if its an editorial screw-up then why shouldnt we point it back to the editor and ask him to fix it and publish an apology? where is the need for extensive analysis? An erroneous publication can do more damage than rumours…it leads to cross referencing and error multiplies exponentially. why shouldnt we nip it in the bud instead?

@ Suresh: Yes, it is time for India and Pakistan to move on but “move on” does not mean giving up what is rightfully yours.

I did not understand what you meant by “there is no chance that Kashmir can govern itself…” – did you mean autonomy for J&K?

    ***

    @ Nagendra: sad but true…

    ***

@ Mrigank: I hope it was just an oversight but things like these have a habit of slipping out of control…and when repeated often, cease to offend anyone…I hope that there were at least a few letters sent to the editor.

    @ Bharat: Thanks…I will have a look.

@ Sridhar: Agree…We do need to nip these things in the bud.

ISI plans ‘Islamic Republic of Pakistan’ by 2020 in India

    Tue, Jan 6 01:40 PM

New Delhi, Jan.6 (ANI): Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) apparently has plans to destabilize India by influencing developmentsin the north and west of the country, particularly in Mumbai, as part of its multi-pronged strategy.

Terrorists arrested in Jammu have made these revelations.

According to an article published in the latest issue of the Power Politics magazine, the ISI has circulated two maps to the Pakistan Army to boost troop morale by giving them a target to destabilize India by 2020.

One of the maps targets North India, and projects a desire to convert that region into ‘Islamic Republic of Pakistan’ by 2020. It mentions South India as disputed territory and treats Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal as its neighbouring countries. he other map indicates a drastic change of Mumbai’s topography, turning the metropolis into ‘Muslimabad’ by 2012.

The magazine carries the photographs of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) activist Ghulam Fareed, identified as Pakistani soldier, (Belt No 4319184, 10 Azad Kashmir Regiment) from Ruperi village in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir’s (PoK’s) Bhimber district and the other two–Mohammad Abdullah from North-West Frontier Province (NWFP) and Mohammad Imran from Dera Nawab in Pakistan’s Punjab–belonged to Harkat-ul-Jehad (HuD) terrorists group. They travelled from Karachi to Dhaka to enter India from Kolkata and they landed at Jammu from there.

The write up further states that according to the plan, ISI has been attempting to place India under seige both from the sea and land routes simultaneously.

Pakistan has moved its army to forward areas in Lahore strengthening international border and LOC with India to protect its vital installations.

The article, written by a Kashmir expert, carries both maps to substantiate the revelations. (ANI)

Something that perturbs me is that many Indian companies use the ‘incorrect’ map of India in their corporate PPTSs where POK is shown as a disputed territory. India has not officially accepted that map. All professionals need to take this up internally in our organisations.

Recently I was at a UKIBC -UK India Business Council evcent where a lady made a presentation where she had put up a map like this. (After being told she was apologetic though)

  10. B Shantanu says:

Samrat: Excellent point and well done on pointing this out at the UKIBC event.

  11. Manoj Mohanani says:

NO! we can’t and shall not accept the LOC as the international border for it does not reflect the true demarcation of the ancient Bharat’s boundaries. Please remember that there is no dispute and that whatever is being projected as a dispute over MacMahon line and by the hooligan democracy in Pakistan is the result of conspiracy between the west including the UK, to keep India and Pakistan busy fighting each other. We shall not succumb to their dirty designs. Kashmir is not a disputed area. Our vedas and many many ancient scriptures tell us that Kashmir and even beyond whatwe call as ‘autonomous Tibet’ was the part of India. We find reference in Mahabharat, Karan-Samhita, Guru Nanak Sahib (commentary on Guru Nanak Dev’s Tours)and many others that Kashmir was an integral part of India. It will be foolish to assume that Kashmir is a disputed area and can be solved by any means including talks and ‘mute and coward talks’ by our Prime Ministers with a dirty neigbour like Pakistan.
We must view Kashmir and the whole Himalayan range as our natural strategic defence and any letoff in that will result in weakening our defence and strenghtening that of China and Pakistan. Only a fool (we have seen many of them as out minsters) would trust Pakistan and China to be content even if the LOC is accepted as Border. Our myopic Prime Ministers kept sleeping over the famous ‘Hindi Chini Bhai Bhai’ while we suffered our first major defeat with a very great cost of handling over a considerable portion of Ladakh to China. Our biggest mistakes in that war included handing over of ‘Tse La’ to China, which was prepared to push China back and was famed as the ‘Iron Fort’ of India and it was disclosed by our then Prime Minister that From here chinese will be pushed back to the line from where they started the incurssions. How many PMs of the world would invite a foreign ambassador (who have consistently being hostile in their policy on India) to a war area and discuss and show alongwith photographs that these are our preparations!
We the people of India have been decieted by our politicians. While we are being portrayed as very weak citizens of a ignorant country our politicians’ impotency in handling the situations has never been punished. Accepting the LOC as the border will be acceptance of ‘psychological slavery’ and putting to shame the lives of those who have died in this proxy war by our neigbors. It will also ensure that those dirty politicians who accended to top positions after freedom of India, will be honored for their deciet and impotency.
We are Indians, we need not go to serve other nations. Why can not we involve in active politics and use our great thoughts and culture in warding off these dirty tricks being played on us by west and our bloody neigbors.
