Do not blame the tools for crimes committed by the users of those. Most of the crimes worldwide are perpetrated using illegal arms. While strict gun control disarms majority citizens, it has no effect on the persons who wish to kill/terrorize using illegal guns. The govt is aiding terrorists indirectly by not allowing citizens to protect themselves with strict gun control, and not stopping terrorists from using their illegal but highly effective arms. Israel allows its citizens to carry concealed weapons which helped in minimizing loss of life in many Mumbai like incidents, take for example recent shootout in Jerusalem where an armed civilian was able to neutralize terrorist, who was on killing spree in a public library. Its time to arm ourselves. True! I dont think with gun. Nothing to disagree with but many cases of crimes in N. America were guns used for family members or relatives over a dispute in little matters. It has played a major role in increasing intolerance in society. Even where there is little diagreemnet or frustrated person have used this gun. Tasergun electroshock gun is the right tool and arm for protection. Ofcourse with less intensity of current. I have no idea legally it is obtainable or not because I have mostly seen its use by police officer. For women too they have some protection tool.
