No land for the Yatris – Government capitulates

J&K govt not to go ahead with land transfer …after assuring SASB that

the state was in a better position to provide better facilities to pilgrims on a large scale than the board. This was accepted by the Governor who gave up SASB’s claim on the forest land.

From Reuters:

The Jammu and Kashmir government said on Sunday it would revoke its decision to transfer forest land to a Hindu shrine trust, a move that could defuse mass protests by Muslims across the Himalayan region.

…The protests, some of the biggest since revolt against Indian rule broke out in 1989, have widened to become pro-independence rallies.

but Hurriyat is not satisfied:

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, head of Kashmir’s main separatist alliance, All Parties Hurriyat (Freedom) Conference, said the peaceful protests would continue until authorities produced a “written revocation order.”

🙁

Meanwhile, IBN continues with its feel-good “secular” reporting: “Land row set aside, locals feed hungry Amarnath pilgrims”

“We decided to provide food to the hungry pilgrims and their children. We arranged free langar for them. Though we are against the land allotment but at the same time we will always help the yatris,” a resident of Srinagar, Mushtaq Ahmad, said.

but gives the game away in its last line:

While political parties like the BJP and PDP are cashing-in on the controversy, there is a lesson to be learnt from this gesture from the people of Srinagar.

Curiously no mention of Congress…

P.S. by the way, is it 100 acres or 40 acres that were to be transferred to SASB? 100 acres = 40 hectares [ link ]*

This reminds me of Mahabharatha when Pandavas were not given land by Kauravas. Duryodhana told that they will not even give them land equal to tip of the needle. and it led to Mahabharatha.

Now Muslims have done the same thing in Kashmir. Yesterday they had beaten up policemen and hurled stones & petrol bombs at Para Military Forces. Kashmiri Muslims also hoisted Pakistani Green Flag in Times square , lal chowk and raised Pro Pakistan & Anti India slogans.

and we are busy allotting lands for Hajj Houses, Mosques and Muslim Congregation Centers ( Edgaah) and Madrassas. Govt. is paying salaries to Imams, Subsidies to Hajj, Millions for Urdu & Arabic Promotion, Millions to Waqf Board . Govt. has spent billions of rupees in Kashmir as aid to Muslims.
We must realise that our goodwill steps will taken as weakness. and appeasement will bring more terror and voilence from Muslims.

Now all Hindu Organisations, Political Parties, Religious Heads and Groups should launch a nationwide stirr against this anti Hindu , anti Indian decision. Even Evil Aurangzeb also didnt dared to stop the Amarnath Yatra.

This is alarming and we should protest in every city of India.

Realistically, what is the political action possible? Are there any political initiatives to counter this blatantly unsecular act by Islamists? Simply condemning this in words will be lost on our ‘secular’ Congress govt.

We need to organize ourselves to make our political protest to save Bharat from disintegrating. Anything an Indian with strong feelings on this blatant transgression can do? Please let me know

Let us show our solidarity in every which way one can.

    2. Some may aruge, what it has to do with caste. It has everyhting to do with. We must not forget it was another Tag-Holder Brahmin Nehru created all problems of J&K. Join BJP whereever you are and be active and prove yourself by getting good command in BJP . Use BJP as platform to spread Nationalism.

We need a strong single party government in center in next Lokh Sabha Polls.

Congress has sided with Anti National Seperatists in Kashmir on the issue of the temporary piece of land to Hindus for Amarnath Pilgrimage. This has completely exposed the congress that Muslim interests are its top priority and it has no concerns for National or Hindu Interest.

In Cyber space we can begin this as a big issue and BJP Shiv Sena , RSS , VHP can use this issue to rip off congress completely and it will help BJP in winning many seats in coming polls and will also unite Hindus.

BJP can get more than 240 seats if it makes Alliance with Mayawati and Declares her as their candidate for the post of Deputy PM . They will please both our Great Hindus ( Dalits , SC , ST , Tribals ) and also Women.

Now we should plan to win Lok Sabha in Saffron.

  8. Siddharth says:

All Patriotic Forces should consolidate and form a broad Nationalist Alliance which should include BJP , Shiv Sena, Akali Dal, Chautala , MNS , RSS Affliates , Mayawati’s BSP , AIADMK, Mamta Banerji, AGP , BJS ,Panun Kashmir , Panthers Party , Sardar Patel Sangarsh Samiti and all other Groups.

Make a common Agenda which should include

    Fighting Terrorism

    Kicking out Bangladeshi Infiltrators

    Fencing the Border

    Hanging Afzal and Other terrorists

    Implementing TADA , POTA

Making a Federal Agency like FBI

Making new act like Patriot Act and Homeland security act

    Increasing in Defense Budget

    Increasing in Education Budget

and Offcoure burning issues like Amarnath ji.

We should also try and bring Back Sadhvi Uma Bharati , Sadhvi Ritumbhara ji , Kalyan Singh ji , Dileep Singh Judev and other True Hindus.

We should try hard to bring back the Brave People like Gurjars , Rajputs , Gorkhas , Marathas , Jaats, Yadavs , Tamils , Telugus back to the Nationalist Alliance and Fight the Next Election like a War to win it .

We should use all modern technologies as Blogs , E-mails , Websites , SMSs and other possible tools to reach maximum people and Youth specially ( This time millions of Youth will be voting first time).

We should make sure that everybody is having the Voter ID Card and everybody votes.

We should win this election otherwise India will loose.

We should pay special attention to UP and Bihar and these states send the maximum MPs and play crucial role in forming the government.

    Capitulation in J&K

    The Pioneer Edit Desk

    Congress bows before Islamic fanatics

It would be erroneous to believe that the situation in Jammu & Kashmir, so severely disturbed this past week by separatists on the rampage and their political patrons of various shades, will become ‘normal’ now that Governor NN Vohra has ‘returned’ the land which had been leased to the Sri Amarnath Shrine Board.

…those elements of Kashmiri society who abhor the idea of any Hindu presence in the Valley and for whom the annual yatra to the Amarnath Shrine is akin to desecration of their “culture” are celebrating their victory over the ‘secular’ state.

…Let there be no mistake: What we have witnessed in Jammu & Kashmir is a pathetic and shameful capitulation, though not for the first time, by the Indian state before Muslim fanatics.

For, contrary to what the PDP, the Hurriyat and assorted separatists have been alleging, there never was any alienation of land nor was there any proposal to erect permanent structures on the leased land. By forcing the Government to beat a retreat, those who had taken to the streets have sent out a clear, though chilling message: In ‘secular’ India, Hindu pilgrims have no right to basic facilities and amenities.

This is in sharp contrast to the huge expense incurred by the Union Government and the State Governments to provide every possible facility both at home and in Saudi Arabia to Haj pilgrims. The ‘Haj Houses’ and ‘Haj Terminals’ — permanent brick-and-mortar structures as compared to the pre-fabricated structures that were planned for yatris travelling to Amarnath — are two examples of how tax payers are made to foot the bill of pilgrimage to Mecca by Muslims. What if people were to find them unacceptable and a “threat to the environment”? Would the Government then demolish them?

Must Islamic fanatics in Kashmir Valley be mollycoddled in so crass a manner?

…Nor shall any purpose be served by blaming those on the fringe of Kashmiri Muslim society, and claiming that ‘Kashmiriyat’ is all-embracing and does not discriminate between Muslims and Hindus. That’s so much balderdash, and we all know it. The cleansing of Kashmir Valley, which began with jihadis forcing Kashmiri Pandits to flee their ancestral land, is an incomplete project — the successful resistance to facilities for Hindu pilgrims highlights this point in the most lurid fashion.

One way of dealing with Sunday’s denouement is to treat the Islamic fanatics with contempt and the Congress with pity. The other way is to stand up and be counted: In secular and democratic India, of which Jammu & Kashmir is an inseparable part, pandering to the dark and menacing forces of Muslim separatism is unacceptable.

It is the saddest day in the history of Independent India.

It is shame that a Nation of over 1 Billion people bowed in front of few thousand stone hurling jehadi traitors.

Shame on all Political Parties , Organisation , Police and Indian Administration.

We should launch a Nationwide Movement till the land is not given back to the Amarnath Board .

  13. Sulaiman says:

This is another example of a problem created to foment further problem. First of all, the land allotment shouldn’t have be made on a religious basis, and even if it was done, it should have been more less blatant and done under legal cover of the judiciary. If India is to survive as a country – the will of the judiciary has to enforced by the Government. No country can survive without upholding the law of its own land. Indians should be made to realize that laws WILL be enforced – even at high costs.

Kashmir is coming off a long period of insurgency, we should avoid creating incidences that can possibly incite trouble – which means avoiding playing into our enemies hands.
Secondly, where are the community leaders? The government of India should put the community leaders into position of power and put pressure on them to contain any religious conflagrations.
India has lived through 18 years of horrible insurgency in Kashmir. We need to provide a framework for integration of that state into the Indian Union. It has to be slow and deliberate. Frivolous issues like this one should never be allowed to escalate that may lose the peace that we have won at such a high cost.

Why Lands have been allotted to Muslims on the basis of Islam.

Government has allotted millions of acres land to muslims for Waqf Boards , hajj houses , islamic centers , mosques , seminaries , muslim schools , madrassa, maktabs and muslim graveyards.

why seperate law for muslims ?

They live in India but want Muslim Personal law.

Indian government has pampered muslims too much .

Now they have crossed the limit.

Indians should unite and give a fitting reply to their stone throwing , slogan shouting jehadis .

All Buildings given for Hajj Houses and Waqf Board should be taken back and used a Schools and Health Centers for the poor and needy.

  15. Harish Duggirala says:

    Sulaiman stop talking nonsense.

The land shouldn’t have been given out based on religion but its ok to allow u wannabe 7th century Arabs to have 4 wives and ur own personal law based on religion?

To send u to Hajj at taxpayers expense and fund ur waqf boards and terrorist producing madrasas from taxpayer money?

Do u and ur community have any shame at all?

But its not ok if some measly land is given for once to accomodate Hindu pilgrims.

Every time I hear the word secular, my blood pressure raises up a notch. I wonder why we have to be secular after all.
Why cant we have law which gives second rate status to minorities? Why do we have to go extra mile to live peacefully in our own country?
Did we not learn from Baghavathgita that even war on relatives is justified if done according to dharma.
Why cant India be declared a Hindu nation? which need not explain its every action as a secular one to all and sundry mullahs. If we have to fight for our land, for our yatris, in our country against so called minorities then it is our fault. We should shed our secularism, if they hinder our Amarnath Yatra any more, we should wipe out that “religion” from our land and put an end to this sham once for all.
Let us be selfish about our land.

  17. Maha says:

It is very hard to provoke Hindus to get to the streets for protests because Hindus are generally tolerant and has the patience to have issues resolved in a diplomatic way. But if they have gone to streets to protest, then something has gravely went wrong and the situation is alarming!

  18. v.c.krishnan says:

    Dear Shri. Vinay,
Secularism is the bed rock of our civilisation. When one deals with Sanatana Dharma there is no concept of religion, there is only one way and that is the way of life, call it what it may be, by any name, by any nomenclature, call it anything, it will be always an understatement of every sort.
One must understand that the concept of the word “Secularism” does not exsist iny any society, how egaliteraian it may be, it is unique to this “Bharat”! Why because it where no one has lived with religion in his mind or on his sleeve.
When the Parsi came the King of that land did not understand that they were a different “Religion”. he only wanted one thing, learn to live with my people as they like to live and we will let you live as you want. The King did not understand “Religion” he knew only “The Way of Life” his forefathers had handed over to him.
Again when the Jews came the Zamorin did not understand what they said about their religion. He wished them well but only advised them to live along with his subjects as they were prone to live.He did not “UNDERSTAND RELIGION”. he knew only a “way of life”his forefathers had handed over to him.
Only when the religiosts who identified themselves with “RELIGION” and not a “Way of Life”, they divided the people.
They could not understand thet each person had a role to play in the society and they played the role every which way they could based on every which way they can.
They could not understand just as one while growing up has the support of every person in the society, like the nurse who holds when the baby is delivered, the staff of the hospital where the baby is born, from the lowliet cleaner to the dean, all have played a part.
The teacher , the cook in the restaurant, the policemen, the boss of his parent, take it as how you want it, EACH PERSON HAD A ROLE TO PLAY.
In the same manner for a society to sustain there were roles played. They could not fathom it. They could not understand SUCH a HIGH LEVEL OF THINKING”, as they were basically uneducated IN EVERY SENSE, and they believed in spirit and all that bunkum.
They could not understand a society where every man was the TRUE SPIRIT!
With this background where else can you expect a SECULAR life!! In Christtian BRITAIN, USA or CHILE. Can you expect it in the ISLAMIC REBUPLIC OF SAUDI ARABIA, IRAN etc.
Oh no Sir, you can expect it only in “BHARAT”.
Secularism has been misinterpereted by these UNEDUCATED masses so let us undersatnd that you can expect TRUE SECULARISM only in BHARAT and not in INDIA.

  19. B Shantanu says:

Excerpts from a recent Op-Ed by Shri Jagmohan in The Asian Age:

    Significance of the Amarnath yatra

…The forest land which had been allotted to the Amarnath shrine board was for a specific purpose — providing basic amenities and temporary shelter to the yatris in pre-fabricated structures.

I do not understand how this act could, as alleged in some quarters, change the demographic character of the state or undermine the environment on the yatra routes. On the other hand, it would have made the yatra more organised and environment-friendly. The waste would have been taken care of at the camp sites and better administrative machinery would be available to prevent landslides and protect water bodies. In any case, safety of the yatris is paramount.

…It is unfortunate that the controversy has diverted public attention from the cultural significance of the yatra. Of all the Indian pilgrimages, the pilgrimage to Amarnath is considered to be the most sacred.

Recalling Swami Vivekananda’s experience, Sister Nivedita wrote: “Never had Swami felt such a spiritual exaltation. So saturated had he become with the presence of the great God that for days after he could speak of nothing else. Shiv was all in all; Shiv, the eternal one, the great monk, rapt in meditation, aloof from the world.” Later on, Swami Vivekananda himself recounted: “I have never been to anything so beautiful, so inspiring.”

…The present Kashmir Valley, according to Nilamata Purana, was once a huge lake known as Satidesa. It was surrounded by high mountains. To kill a demon, Jalodhbava, who was indestructible under water, Rishi Kashyap made a cut in the mountains and drained off all the water. The land that emerged came to be called Kashmir, after Rishi Kashyap.

…the significance of the yatra does not end at the personal level. It extends to the much larger issue of cultural unity and vision of India from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, from Kathiawar to Kamrup.

When some people talk of Kashmir’s relationship with the rest of India only in terms of Article 1 and Article 370 of the Constitution, I am surprised at their ignorance.

They don’t know that the relationship goes deeper. It is a relationship that has existed for thousands of years in the mind and soul of the people, a relationship that India’s intellect and emotions, its life and literature, its philosophy and poetry, its common urges and aspirations, have given birth to. It is this relationship which inspired Subramania Bharati to perceive Kashmir as “a crown of Mother India, and Kanyakumari as a lotus at her feet”, and also made him sing that “She has 30 crore faces, but her heart is one.”

From BJP flays Abdullah’s stand on Amarnath (emphasis mine)

The Bharatiya Janata Party came down on National Conference President Omar Abdullah on Wednesday for his utterances during the trust vote debate in Parliament…

“Abdullah who is for greater autonomy for Kashmir, his party’s core constituency, has once again poured venom on Indians by shamelessly shouting in Parliament that Muslims are fighting for their land,” BJP state committee vice-president and spokesman Hari Om said.

“They will continue to resist land transfer to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board for creating facilities for pilgrims even at a future date,” Om said, adding the thunderous applause from treasury benches to Abdullah’s stand on the land issue proves the government backed the order’s cancellation.

Does anyone know what exactly did Omar Abdullah say?

  21. B Shantanu says:

Lest it be forgotten (emphasis mine): Pakistan, Saudi Arabia bankrolled Amarnath agitation: Azad

….Lashing out at all the groups that made an ‘issue’ of the allotment of the land to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) and subsequent cancellation of the same, Azad said: ‘Less than one percent of the population of the state was involved in these agitations, which were being carried out with money provided by Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.’

Azad was addressing a public meeting here, first since the fall of his government July 7, when he quit office and refused to face a trust vote in the state legislative assembly.

The Muslim-majority Kashmir Valley was rocked by violent protests after the former Congress-led government transferred 40 hectares of forest land in south Kashmir to the SASB, the temple trust of the Himalayan Amarnath cave shrine.

The order was later revoked July 1…

Azad said the people in the Kashmir Valley were also agitated because they felt that the Jammu region was getting more attention for development. ‘They could not digest this and started an agitation to remove the government that was working for the equal development of all regions.’
