What has “a Hindu” got to do with this?

Came across this gratuitous reference in a recent ANI story about an Indian American in Britain who has filed 40 cases of racial discrimination with employment tribunals in Britain.

The news-item had this “nugget” towards the end of the report:

Deman, who is married and from a Hindu background, is a U.S. citizen and describes himself as Indian-American.

Notice the “H-word”?

What has his being “a Hindu” got to do with this report and his lawsuits? As far as I could understand, none of his lawsuits were based on religious grounds; I wonder what was the point of that remark?

There was no need for the H word there. They might be creating a stereotpe for Hindus here. (The Man needs to stereotype everybody, his puny brain cannot understand what is happening with all those immigrants: “dem brown guys, ah tell yer. Some are Muslim- jess cabbies and terrorists- and some are Hindu – jess after our money).

    Dear Sir,
Blasphemy Sir! Blasphemy! Here we are having a white man talking the dreaded “H” word anathema for our Indian “SECULAR MEDIA” and you have the audacity to question it. I shall definetely ask Ms. Teesta and members of the Tehelka team to have a look at it.
The only thing that was missing was a “report” of the involvement of Shri Modi as the letter “H” appears in the report. May be be our secular friends will find a link somewhere! Are we all missing a point?

It is just a thought. The British have endeared themselves to all Indians by deviously divesting India of its riches for over three centuries. They came as traders and inadvertently ended up ruling the country because of their love for India and the Indians.

Deman has retrieved some of the booty even if for selfish ends. It is worth noting that even though he is a U.S. citizen, he is interested in the British Pounds and not the U.S. Dollars.

Any takers for the passing thought that the influence of Western (Christian) culture could have corrupted this simple man with a Hindu background and changed him into a wily Indian American.

Why is it that the enlightened Western news media, which vociferously decry racist remarks by lesser men, think that they can get away with mediocre and racially prejudiced news?
