The tragic farce that is Nandigram…

…which our “independent” and “alert” media seems to have forgotten.

From: Conspiracy of Silence on Nandigram’s Muslim Victims – by Yossarin

Excerpts:

In the perverse value system eschewed by Sitaram Yechury the Tehelka that was not is germane for discussion in Parliament but the CPI-Mafioso’s war on the Muslims of Nandigram is not.

So what perverse logic did Yechury offer ? “Nandigram was a state law and order subject

…It is surprising Mr. Yechury expects to be taken seriously by the people of this nation with such specious logic.

Let us see why Mr. Yechury’s logic is specious

– the majority of the victims in Nandigram were Muslim, a fact highlighted first by Offstumped and since reported by the Pioneer, Telegraph and Indian Express

– the Home Secretary of West Bengal went on record to state that the CPI-Mafioso waged war in Nandigram

– the Station Officer of Nandigram and the SP of Midnapore went on record to state that they were instructed not to interfere

– the Governor, custodian of the constitution in West Bengal, goes on record to state that Nandigram was a war zone

– the Chief Minister of West Bengal Buddhadeb goes on record to confirm that he did not want the state police to act

– the Chief Minister then goes on record to justify that the violence on women and children of Nandigram was “morally and “legally” justified

So you have violence on Minorities while the local law enforcement sits tight in the confines of police stations and the Chief Minister justifies it. By what perverse application of logic and reason is this not a violation of more than one fundamental feature of the Constitution ? But then what do you expect from those like Mr. Yechury who have held brief for private militia and terrorirsts.

The more serious crime on the Muslim Victims of Nandigram is the Conspiracy of Silence* from the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the Congress President Sonia Gandhi and the many conscience keepers in the media who are outraged selectively.

Much has been said about the BJP’s lack of remorse on the Gujarat riots. But then public memory is notoriously short in India.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee then Prime Minister had the courage and conviction to face the nation in a televised address to atleast go on record to say this: “Whatever the provocation …. The burning alive of people, including women and children, from Godhra to Ahmedabad and other places is a blot on the country’s face.”

…Mr. Advani, showed courage and conviction to confront the ghosts of Gujarat while in the company of foreign leaders during his visit to UK. He went on record to say: “”What happened in Gujarat is a matter of distress. It is a blot on my government. It is indefensible. I feel sorry that this has happened”.

Go and read the full post here.

Most of you must have read this outrageous statement from Buddhadeb: “Last 11 months, the Bhoomi Uchched Pratirodh Committee, the Trinamool Congress and the Maoists were creating violence with arms. And last two-three days, CPI-M workers had paid them back in their own coin…”. Thats it…No hint of remorse or anything else. Is Shri Bhattacharya really an elected political leader of a state with a population of 80m (almost the same as Germany)? Shame on our democracy.

This is the same PM who could not sleep at night when Indian nationals were accused in the failed terrorism attack in UK.

P.S. If you thought that the CPI-M’s attitude in W Bengal towards minorities was an aberration, think again. Read this statement from the Indian Union Muslim League: CPI-M blames RSS to absolve responsibility for violence (Excerpt):

…Alleging that the CPI-M was behind the attack on Haj pilgrims in the district on Tuesday, the Indian Union Muslim League today accused the ruling party in Kerala of putting the blame on the RSS-BJP workers to absolve itself of “mounting” political clashes in the state.

The attack on Haj pilgrims at Kadavathur made it clear that the CPI-M always stood against the minorities’ interests, IUML General Secretary P K Kunhalikutty told reporters.

“The CPI-M is engaged in unleashing terror in the states where it rule and the situation in Nandigram in West Bengal is more or less the same,” the leader of IUML, a constituent of opposition UDF, said at Kadavathur.”

While the Indian MSM goes on and on about Godhra and Gujarat, they are content to ignore the slaughter of the innocents in Nandigram. Only because their fellow travellers are doing it???? Buddhadev, the reformer, justifies it by saying it is morally just??? Why are the Karats mum now???

@ Patriot: Very timely! Thanks for the links. I will have a look at them.

  3. Nandan says:

Mr. Yechury has made a very valid point. Since the attackers are not communal Hindus, there is absolutely no likelihood of communal tension there. That means there is no law and order problem. UPA Government has been formed with the outside support of Communists with the laudable aim of protecting the secular credentials of the country. Since secularism is under no threat, there is no need for any interference from the Centre or from the Courts.

Our PM and Soniaji seem to understand this. That must be the reason why they don’t like to say the word “Nandigram” in any of their press releases. Unfortunately, our High Court Judges appear to be out of touch with ground realities. What a shame that they are clinging to the outdated notion that law is same for all citizens of the country. How dare they say that there was State sponsored terrorism in WB? All what the comrades did was just recapture lost territory from aggressors and teach them a few memorable lessons.

There is only one small little problem. Not for the Communists though. The victims in Nandigram may not understand the technical difference between communal violence and Communist violence. The Congress Party must take immediate measures to educate the victims that whatever happened to them was for their own good. It must be explained that antagonizing the comrades will result in a BJP Government at the Centre. They should insert the words Godhra and Gujarat wherever possible.

Perhaps, the ‘free, fare and fearless’ Tehelka could help. How about a sting operation to prove that it was Modi’s men and not the comrades who indulged in the violence in Nandigram?

This incident has definitely exposed the double standards of our media, politicians and educated intellectuals. While the media was filled with images of Godhra, it is quiet on Nandigram, even the internet is quiet except for the blogs. But I doubt these people have any integrity, when confronted with their silence and hence condoning of incidents in Nandigram, they will bring up Modi and Godhra. Perhaps this incident will hopefull wake up people in India of all religions of who is the real secularist, and who is the pseudo one! My prayers for the victims in Nandigram

Taslima-Nandigram mix brings Army out –

I am reminded of the great Sanskrit verse which explains the thought process of some of our leaders.

    ???? ???? ????????? ??? ?????? ?????????
    ????? ????? ?????????? ??? ?? ??? ?? ?????????
yasya kasya tarormoolam yena kenapi gharshitam
yasmai kasmai pradatavyam yad va tad va bhavishyati

[The root of this plant or that plant ground with this or that when given to this one or some other may result in this or that.]

Literally taking a cue from this, the well meaning leaders have decided to use the formula and see what happens. They will take this issue or some other issue, mix it thoroughly so they become indistinguishable from each other and then target the unsuspecting public. Either they win the elections or lose it. Only time will tell.

It is immaterial that some more lives may have to be sacrificed in the process. “For you to be successful, sacrifices must be made. It’s better that they are made by others but failing that, you’ll have to make them yourself.” – Rita Mae Brown

This has reference to the IUML leaders comment:

[ Alleging that the CPI-M was behind the attack on Haj pilgrims in the district on Tuesday, the Indian Union Muslim League today accused the ruling party in Kerala of putting the blame on the RSS-BJP workers to absolve itself of “mounting” political clashes in the state. – Outlook]

It is a fact known to most citizens that RSS is the whipping boy of all and sundry. Most Muslims are also aware of it. However, their persecution complex prevents them from seeing truth as it is. For them, it is blasphemy to project RSS as capable of doing anything good. The minority and secular leaders are quick to detect the hands of a scheming RSS whenever there is a problem.

If Hindus and their organizations were so much against the minorities, how come the Hindus allowed them to flourish in their land? All it takes for a real Hindu to embrace the minorities with open hands is a little gesture the minorities themselves. Just for once, stop referring to Hindus as Pagans, Heathens and Kafirs. The sooner they realize this, the better for them.

It is doubtful if the said leader would have come out with a statement, if the victims were those not belonging to a particular community.

  8. B Shantanu says:

Nandan: I had a look at the link.

The truly saddening bit is how two completely unrelated topics – which have really nothing to do with each other – have found common ground in religion.

Isn’t there one political leader who will stand up and say: “Don’t mix the two issues…don’t muddy the waters…the public cannot be fooled by such tactics…” – Or am I being too optimistic?

  9. Nandan says:

    Shantanu:

So long as we have leaders, who have something in their minds, speak out something else in public and then go on to do an entirely different thing and so long as the Indian people continue to believe that they can do nothing about such behaviour, these things are likely to continue. Optimism is a good thing. But straightening the dog’s tail and ensuring that it remains so do not appear to me as goals which could be attained easily by mere optimism.

  11. Patriot says:

What you don’t know about Bengal (and did not know whom to ask!):

    1. The state of Bengal is under a totalitarian, communist dictatorship, hiding under a facade of democracy. This dictatorship behaves in a fascist manner when it needs to, for example, in Nandigram.

    2. The Elections in Bengal have been rigged by the CPM and its group of co-conspirators (CPI, RSP, FB) for at least the last 15 years, on a scale, that belittles Bihar and UP. The CPM has perfected the rigging to such an extent that even the Electoral Commission is unable to detect it or prevent it. I can provide multiple examples of how the CPM rigs the elections, especially outside the cities, which anyone living in Bengal is aware of (or someone who has extensive contacts there).

    3. Over the last 30 years, the CPM has successfully transplanted the state government with the party. Whether it is the Police, the lower judiciary, the bureaucrats, the local panchayats, the unions, what the party says, goes. Because most people either are cadre or pay obeisance to the party for their career prospects.

    4. The CPM has turned the cities and the “intellecutals/protesters” resident in the cities irrelevant to the political process of the state. They have done this by illegally settling bangladeshis in previously congress dominated seats (it is my bet that these very same bangladeshis bit the CPM in the butt in Nandigram), through the usurpation of govt agencies by the party (see #3) and through rampant use of force (which is not visible to mainstream media).

    5. The education system of Bengal, which used to be one of the best in the country, has been decimated by the CPM, through the use of their unions. This is to ensure that the students are either lumpens, party hacks or those who attend in fear. Any student with any drive want to continue their graduation and post-graduation work outside the state. This ensures that there can never be any youth in opposition, with any kind of significant mass to challenge the CPM.

    6. Through creating a system of fear among the law-abiding citizens, which is comparable to what used to exist in USSR. No white collar citizen in the the state has the guts or more importantly, the wherewithal to question any party activity. Retribution is immediate and sharp …… the party is really everywhere. They have rendered political opposition largely impotent through widespread and selective use of force.

Such is the state of Bengal and such are the Communists. This is why the Communists are blood-traitors to this country and why they need to be opposed at every juncture. Today, they control the federal government with just 10% of the parliamentary seats.

Can you imagine the state of India, if the CPM is actually able to spread outside Bengal? (Kerala is a diff case, as the Congress and the communists alternate in government)

  12. Nandan says:

Great analysis, Patriot. You are right. There is a difference in Kerala.

However, the Communists have been able to destroy agriculture by making it unprofitable to be a farmer. The landlords became landless as a result of the land reforms.

Land reform was a good thing as a measure to reduce exploitation of the poor workers. Unfortunately, within a short while, the Communist leaders themselves have filled the gap with another kind of exploitation.

Now we have a situation where a Communist leader is able to spend over forty lakh rupees for education of his children in foreign universities and the common worker is forced to spend all his savings to bribe an agent to secure a shepherd’s job for his educated son, with a foreign Sheikh.

They have seen to it that industrialists are kept away from the State. With no jobs on offer, the educated job seekers migrate. The outcome has been very sad.

The new generation of Malayali children do not speak proper Malayalam since they don’t get enough opportunity. They don’t learn proper Hindi since they have no backup help from the familty. Knowledge of English is very poor since it is a foreign language. I am afraid it is a generation that has lost touch with its past, has no involvement with the present and no planning for the future.

But it is uncharitable to grant full credit for this achievement only to Communists. The Congress party has contributed its mite to this end in whatever conceivable way possible. One needs a wry sense of humour and skill to grin and bear if one is to survive the doublespeak of the devious leaders. Fortunately, the Keralites are up to it. I am confident the rest of India will soon catch up, too.

  13. B Shantanu says:

    @ Patriot: Brilliant…Thanks!

@ Nandan: Likewise, excellent comment…thanks and I liked this in particular:

I am afraid it is a generation that has lost touch with its past, has no involvement with the present and no planning for the future.

I wonder whether this also holds true for a vast majority of Indians today…

US team in Nandigram raises hackles – Pioneer News Service. Excerpts given below:

“Although the American trio are Left-wing fellow-travellers — affiliated to ‘Workers World Party’ whose mission is to “fight against capitalism” — and ‘members’ of a little-know Delhi-based organisation, ‘Anti-Imperialist Forum’, their criticism is likely to be seized upon by the CPI(M) to shift public attention from Marxist atrocities in Nandigram to “American interference” in India’s internal affairs.”

“Clark and his friends are not members of an official American delegation, but such fine nuances will be merrily ignored by the Marxist propaganda machinery while generating anti-American sentiments. It won’t be surprising if the CPI(M) now claims that the entire Nandigram affair was an “American conspiracy”.

“Strangely, although Marxist cadre have virtually barred everybody, including mediapersons, from entering Nandigram, Clark and his colleagues could visit the affected areas effortlessly. It is almost as if their visit was facilitated by the CPI(M). Hence, they had no problems meeting victims to whom mediapersons have been denied easy access. ”
